Yes! hugs are wonderful because they make you feel wanted and handshakes are somewhat a formal mannerism. But if you just meet someone I would strongly suggest handshake because you dont want to offend! :)

It depends.
I love hugs.
Me and my husband are always hugging. We make my in-laws sick because we're always hugging and kissing.
My daughter is the same.
She's always hugging us and giving us kisses.
However, so refuses to hugs other people, and I'm not going to make her.
I myself will hug a girl friend if she really needs a hugs.
If I'm at a place like the church where everyone hugs everyone I'll always place my shoulder between me and the man. Sort of hug him from the side.
I don't want to hug other men.
I'd much rather prefer a handshake.

Hugs! lol I love to hug ppl, even though I tend to scare them or catch them off gaurd. I'll find any reason to hug my friends
