I put sugar in my coffee ( 2tbsp) and i do that twice a day, and i also put sugar in my green tea. I dont eat candy bars of junk food, so is sugar really that bad for me? What makes it so bad? Is it worse than pure fat or can you have it in moderation and not eat junk>?
I have no clue, any answer would be helpful.
~*~*~*Thanks, Leilani

sugar is what is considered "empty" calories. meaning that it doesn't contain the nutrients the body needs in order to function.

natural sugars that are found in things like fruit and some veggies are good for us because the body breaks them down and uses them as energy.

refined sugars (the kind that comes in a bag for baking or spooning into your coffee) are the worst for you. your body turns this sugar into glucose, which is then stored as fat for later usage by your body.

although you aren't using alot of sugar, you might want to try using something else such as splenda or equal instead. splenda (which is what i use) is made from real sugar so it basically tastes the same and has no calories at all so it won't sabatoge your diet. you can cook with it too. some sugar in your diet is required for energy but the key is to find the right sugars to eat such as fruit or vegtables.

steering clear of things like candy, cookies, cake, or anything with high sugar content will help you avoid weight gain or loss of energy.

I have a boxer/lab mix, and she does the same thing! I think she's attracted to sweets, actually! I've heard that boxers can have sensitive stomachs, but I don't think my dog does...I decorate cakes for a hobby, and there have been many times that she will get up on the counter and eat my left over icing bags if I don't get them thrown out or kept back far enough from her reach. I don't think the sugar is especially harmful. My sister works for a gourmet pet treat "barkery", where she makes home made dog treats. She makes specialty cakes, icing dipped bones and cup cakes that are doggy friendly. All of the ingredients are human consumable, but are also approved by veterinarians. The icings she uses are either butter cream (which the main ingredient is powdered sugar) or another kind which is just melted down mints like people use at wedding receptions/baby and bridal showers. I wouldn't be alarmed if I were you. If you see abnormal behavior, contact your vet immediately!!

So long as u r not watching weight, it is absolutely fine.

Eat only when hungry. No more than three meals a day unless diabetic. Eat nourishing food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables being part of it. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will activate signal to the brain as soon as u have had enough. Besides this change in eating style, take regular light exercises and brisk walks every day. U will be able to shed all extra weight gracefully and in a reasonable time span.

Sugar like anything else really isn't bad unless you have too much of it, and most people now a days get too much of it. Sugar is high in calories and since most people get to many calories that they don't burn off, they become fat and have all the health problems that come with it.

You need sugars and carbs to stay alive. a few servings a day is perfectly fine. For most the problem occurs when they go to their local gas station and buy a 64oz soda with 10 times their daily sugar (simple carb) allowance. Check out your pyramid on the govs website for indication as to how much sugar you can have based on your age and weight.

As others have mentioned, genetic predesposition to diabetes exists and should be taken in consideration when deciding how many servings of simple carbs you will allow yourself a day.

That amount of sugar isn't bad, you likely burn it off pretty quickly. The bad stuff is high Fructose Corn Syrup, and any excessive amount of sugars.

well if you have a family with diabetis in your family try and avoid as much as you can. if you aren't well so what. the thing is that i have found that eating sugar stuff and sweets also makes you want ot eat more and you are more hungary. if you stopped with sweets you would see this is creates more for you to want ot eat. that is up to you

Sugar has lots of calories, rots your teeth and causes spikes and crashes in your blood sugar.
