And what are you...are non believers more likely to do 'good works' (I say that because I know some believers don't seem think it matters) or is everyone?

I try to do nothing but good works and I try not to remember them
for fear I might get vain. I just keep trying, and hope I don't screw
nothing up for God

I respect those around me and teach my children to respect others. I volunteer my time whenever I can to a lot of different people and places. My husband and I never fail to stop and offer someone help in stores, on the street and beside the road. We have opened our home to acquaintences who have no where to go. Whenever we move, or need some help with something (like a major house cleaning etc) we go down to the homeless shelter or woman's shelter and pay someone from there to come and help. We give them money for their time as well as a good meal or two and we usually ask them to stay and play cards or just gab etc. If we had room enough, we would let them all stay here. I make blankets for Project Linus (to give to hospitals for sick kids and babies). We try in general to give whatever we can when we can.
I'm a believer, just not Christian (we're Celtic Reconstructionists).

I believe and I try to live my life as if everyone matters. Being or doing Good for others is an individual desire to help those less fortunate. It really has nothing to do with being a believer or not. I think its just character. If your good you do good things. If your evil and wicked....you get the point.

Just last week I brought homemade cream of broccoli soup to work for all my coworkers for lunch. I passed on some important news to a woman who was looking for her lost brother, I always counsel my best friend when she has a hard time in her relationship, and for easter I am going to make a ribbon egg for all of my co-workers just for fun, and I have promised to make a cheesecake for my coworkers too. I saved a stray dog from getting hit, brought her home and found and returned her to her owner. I do good things because I like to.. it gives me joy to give joy to others. I cant speak for all believers but from what people say on here... "good works are like filthy rags to god" so i doubt they put much effort into something their god doesnt care about, I know many are too preoccupied with proving how much they have accepted jesus/god so they can get their ticket into paradise.. I dont care about all that and I dont believe in it. I am agnostic and I have my own beliefs one of them is that doing good things for others out of simple kindness of heart with no gain on your part is more important that believing in a god.

i dont keep score.

if i counted the good i did, i might get prideful when others didnt do as well as me.

relying on the good works i did is not trusting in grace.

i praise God for His grace.

if i counted the bad i did, i might get depressed and feel hopeless that i wasnt doing as well as others.

focusing on the bad works i did is not trusting in grace.

i praise God for His grace.
