I have to tell this story although it was not my dog..........One day I noticed that a small red trash can we had on out on our patio was missing. That evening a friend who was visiting from out of town came by, our conversation somehow turned to my missing trash can. My friend started laughing uncontrollably, he said that his mother's dog had brought home a small red trash can the day before. It was mine!!! This dog lived about two miles away, I would have given anything to see him pack that trash can home.

I work at a vet. We had a Doberman with a rock this size of my fist in her stomach. 2 weeks later the same families other dog a Golden retriever came in for heartworm treatment during routine x-rays we found what looked like a rock in his stomach. It was a rock, along with a stuffed animal, a whole stuffed animal might I add. A few pebbles and half of a carrot. We've also had a corn cob A pair of dora the explorer underwear. The bolts off of a dogs kennel. One dog expelled a condom. And one of those stuffed animals with the magnetic hands that clamped together, he ended up with a perforated intestines and stomach because they clamped together and eventually wore through the intestines and stomach. And my friends dog ate 2 boxes of russel stovers chocolates that were on the top of a book shelf and a bottle of tums. (still a mystery as to how he got them considering he is a large dog, and it's a very tall book shelf with nothing to climb, and not a book had been moved.

A dead mouse. I called my dog inside and she came in and plopped it right at my feet and looked up at me like "Here mom, look what I brought you!" Thank God it was at least dead - oh and before anybody starts in on the animal / rodent cruelty thing, my dog did not kill the mouse, it was dead stiff and had to have been dead for quite some time.
"Responsible dog owners" understand that they will NEVER be able to change what a dog is, and smart and healthy dogs will find weird and gross (at least to us humans) things even in their own backyard because most dogs, well at least dogs that aren't suppressed by stiff owners and who are encouraged to play and have fun and be dogs, like to investigate and will be automatically drawn to any new scent that has entered the yard, dead or alive, however it got there. A lot of wild rabbits run through our yard and even at night with all the doors/windows/blinds closed, my dogs will suddenly start howling and run to the door to go out and sure enough there is a big fat wild rabbit sitting in the yard - that's how strong their sense of smell is.

We keep our dogs in the house most of the time; but we do have a 7ft. fence around our back yard with a two car garage enclosed within it where the doghouses, food, etc is (it is more of a giant dog house than a garage-we still park our cars out front :})
Anyway, so there is really nothing weird for them to get too, however in the spring/summer when we go on walks, my Beagle/Husky mix likes to pick bug (locust) shell off of trees! BTW All stories on here were cute/interesting

My dogs never are permitted to run loose. The strangest thing one ever brought in to the house from the run was a piece of siding. He ripped two pieces off the house. He had a heck of a time getting it threw the doggie door and then wished he hadn't when I saw what he had done.

I had a place with a creek that ran through the backyard. My dog back then, Grunt, would spend the occasioal spring/summer night collecting every single toad he could find and bring them in the house through the dog door. I came home one night in what must have been the hight of breeding season to find ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTY-TWO toads hopping about and pooping on the floor. Not one single toad was injured. Grunt was just sitting there on the couch watching them hop all over and looking very happy with herself. She was also foamy and drooly from carrying angry toads in her mouth, but it cleared up in a few hours. I though the vet was going to die laughing. After that we would lock the dog door after dinner.

My dog once brought me a live kitten. Somehow a kitten that was maybe 3 to 4 weeks old got in my yard and my female grabbed it because the other dogs were trying to bite it. She brought it to me and dropped it in my hands.

Well considering that it was already in the house and it wasn't an invited guest I guess the weirdest thing my Jack Russell has gave or should I say caught for me was a mouse and then a rat! Better mouser then any of our cats if you ask me.

This question brought back memories! This REALLY DID HAPPEN! Our little cocker spaniel, Molly, (bless her little heart) brought home a baby skunk!
In response to comment on letting dogs roam---we have an EXTREMELY large fenced in rural yard. The dog was in our yard!
We are very responsible pet owners! Can't help what wanders in!

My dog Kobe once brought in a pair of dirty underwear, I guess one of the younger kids might have thrown them in. We got a bag and threw it out lol..
My other dogs bring in all kinds of stuff, Tampons from who knows where (It's disgusting.. The kids around here must have nothing better to do), old socks, shirts, mice (blah), wood, garbage & anything else you can name..
