My psychiatrist just prescribed Clonazepam to me for anxiety, panic attacks, and bipolar disorder along with Paxil and Depakote. My insurance will not pay for the Clonazepam. What is an alternative to the Clonazepam that will do the same thing as it does? I will ask him to prescribe something else if I know what to ask for.

Possibly Ativan...the generic version will be Lorazepam. I don't think the potential for addiction is much greater than the Klonopin you were prescribed.

the clonazepam stays in your system a lot longer than any of these other anti-anxiety meds. the price of these meds are not going to be that much different. i think i pay around 17.00 for 60 2mg tabs once a month. i don't have insurance either but i only have to take my meds 1 in the AM and 1 in the PM because of the longer half life of the drug.

Join the crowd, my insurance is a joke too. They don't cover any mental health meds or to see a psychiatrist. Try Lorazepam-sp? I pay cash-not thru insurance. Approx. $22 for 60 1 mg pills. It works very well for anxiety. It comes in 1-2 mg pills. Best of luck

clonazepam is generic and you should be able to get it for $4 (30 day supply -- 30 tablets) at either: TARGET, WAL-MART, or other pharmacies. Most of their generics are now only $4 for 30 days -- ask!
I think clonazepam is by far a safer medication, take only when you need it & don't abuse it.

If you can pay out of pocket, it should not be too expensive. Diazepam will run least expensive. It's generic Valium. I am sorry about your insurance.
