My cat is mostly outside and he has been cut up a few times. I soak the wound in warmish water to lift the matted fur and clean the wound. I cut the fur away from the cut. I put neosporin, an antibacterial on the cut. Wrap it in a bandaid, or gauze. Change the dressing once a day and reaply neosporin. It worked fine for my cat. Continue until the cut starts to heal. I hope he feels better!

My baby Domino, he has had some near scapes with the grim reaper...it really does depend.
Domino came in one time from outside and just crawled up in my arms and wailed. His face was HUGE, poor thing, he'd been stung by a bee. I thought he was having an allergic reaction (he suffers from HORRIBLE allergies) called the vet to find out they were closed and no emergency service on Sunday. I held him for about 30 minutes and he wanted to get down and went back outside. He came back about an hour later, whamo - no more boo-boo, his face went back to normal.
Another instance, I thought he had broken his tail. I wouldn't have been too concerned if it were near the tip of his tail, but it was near the base, and cats use their tails to balance. I DID take him to the vet for that one, and imagine that, his tail wasn't broken, but the poor baby was in for some serious work. They shaved his tail and poked a hole in the lump - it was INFECTED! He had to take antibiotics for 10 days, and I had to clean his tail every day twice a day with peroxide. That little infection could have killed him.
Cats are masters of disguise, they can't show they are vulnerable, especially if they are outside cats, they fight too much. I think you should take him to the vet and have them take a look at the boo-boo, it sounds pretty intense if there is a deep wound like that :<.
I hope that helps a little :>.

i'm no longer a vet, yet I certainly have wiped sparkling many a wound on cats. You did no longer point out if this became a superficial wound or a puncture. Superficial wound, sparkling and placed a splash iodine on it. i visit anticipate that's deeper than merely skin point. Hydrogen peroxide is magnificent for cleansing the wound. It dries quickly and does not depart a residue. comparable thought as alcohol. Vets use it all of the time. reliable first decision in fact. you should purchase a "betadine" answer to scrub the wound and it additionally will grant some therapeutic belongings to the wound without harming the cat. This wound ought to be wiped sparkling various circumstances an afternoon. A topical antibiotic like neosporin won't harm the cat in small doses they get from licking . i advise you attempt and get some on the wound. After cleansing the spot, you additionally can keep on with uncomplicated previous cornstarch as nicely. Cornstarch will dry at as quickly as and grant some protection against bacteria. hose down the exterior and faucet dry cornstarch onto it. it incredibly is going to dry and create a barrier. It won't final very lengthy by means of fact the cat is an exterior cat, yet once you could seize it, repeat the treatment. If the cat assist you to hold it, you could keep on with a heat tea bag to the area. it incredibly isn't any longer merely a reliable soreness reliever, it helps draw out an infection and helps contained in the therapeutic technique. you additionally can %. tea leaves from the bag into the wound. Puncture wounds do ought to be drained in case you notice a puss pocket forming. you could, IF the cat will tolerate it, gently "convey" the wound to tension puss out. as quickly as you have carried out this, flush it incredibly is going to peroxide or betadine, permit it dry and attempt to place some style of topical protecting on it. some style of paste combination or you should purchase a "liquid" bandaid. yet with this you may ought to get rid of it to scrub it back. If a deep puncture wound seals over formerly that's drained sufficiently it may exchange into existence threatening. while you're fearful approximately being waiting to seize it back, a reliable bribe like stinky sardines works wonders.....:) that's amazingly style of you to guard an injured animal that's a stray. I applaud your efforts. i'm hoping the cat heals nicely out of your ministrations. He could ok undertake you. Cats could nicely be very grateful to those who instruct kindness to them.

He definately needs a visit to the vet. It sounds like an abcess most likely caused by a bite or scratch. He will need medicine either way. Good luck.
