Conjunctivitis is also called Pink Eye, can present in a short time.
It is very contagious, rather common and treatable.
I hope you took her to the doctor and give her the medication as prescribed.
You and anyone around the baby should do lots of hand washing. And keep baby's hands clean. She could infect her other eye.
Don't worry. This is very common. The day car was right to call you and send her home.

First off , I am not a doctor.. I cannot tell you what your daughter does or does not have based on a typed description. However, I will state, it sounds like it COULD be conjuntivitis, and usually a nursery that has seen it before, can make a pretty accurate call. However, the only real way is to get her to a doctor to get an "official" answer.
The redness and discharge come mainly from irritation and rubbing, so the more the eye gets rubbed, the more irritated it gets, the faster it shows up.
No need to panic, many kids get alot of eye maladies throughout growing up. Take her to a doc, get some salve for the eye to reduce the irritation, and usually has a mild antibiotic AND something to numb the eye up a little, and a few days should clear it up.. Just rememmber, to use the medication exacetlyu how the doc says, and finish it, not just until it looks like it goes away.

I'm not a doctor, just a kid whose little brother is currently suffering with the same ailement.
Pinkeye (US term) is an inflamation of the outer layer of the eye. It's caused by either an allergic reaction or an infection (usually bacterial).
The bacterial type is the most common, and is usually caused, in children, by interaction with other children who have it. The viral type is common mainly in India during the rainy season, so depending on where you live, it is highly unlikely that your daughter has it. The allergin type is caused by allergies, obviously. Also, there are types caused by exposure to certain toxins and another caused by a vitamin A deficiency.
Your daughter almost certainly has the bacterial type, which is nothing to worry about. Just take her to a doctor and get her antibiotics. It should start improving in about four days.
Again, pinkeye is nothing serious, although it is highly contagious and very common among young children.
I hope this helps you.

Don't worry! The doctor will give you antibiotic eye drops if your daughter has conjunctivitis. It's also known as "pink eye" and kids get it a lot. If they rub their eyes after touching someone's hands, or a toy, or a towel who is infected, they will probably get it, too. It is quite contagious, which is why the school wanted you to pick your daughter ASAP. On the other hand, she might have red eyes from seasonal allergies.

Yes, conjunctivitis does come suddenly. Clean her eyes frequently with clean cotton and water. Wash your hands before and after doing this. Don't let her touch her eyes. If she does so, wash her hands immediately. Get antibiotic eye drops from a doctor and use them. The other eye will also get infected. Don't worry. This is a common infection. She will be all right in 3 or 4 days.

Yes it can. It is just pink eye and there can be several different types but, this time of year I am telling ya it is probably from a virus of some sort and it is not any big thing. It is very contagious though so take her to get some medicine (Eye drops).

I am not a doctor, but I have worked in daycare, and from my experience pink eye can come up quite suddenly.
^ She said her daughter had a fever 2-3 days back, NOT for 2-3 days.

I hate to say this, but why in the world have you let your daughter carry on with a fever for so many days??
You need to get with her pediatrician and have them run some tests. Since you said nothing is irritating her eyes, it probably isn't pink eye.
Good luck and seek medical attention STAT!
