While Tahiti maybe expensive there are a few ways you can cut down on your trip expenses.. Firstly you can stay at a cheaper location.
You can stay at cheap places like Teamo Pension, Mahina Tea and Victoria Hotel in Central Papeete and in Chez Fifi, Chez Myrna, Chez Lola and Hotel Hei Tiare Inn Out side Papeete.
Search online for all-inclusive honeymoon packages, which are often very reasonable and include a whole host of things like airfare, transport costs, meals, etc
Dine at cafes, snackbars food stalls which are usually very cheap. Le Truck is a good option to save some money.
Avoid taxis because they are way too expensive.
Happy Honeymoon in Tahiti!

I love Moorea in Tahiti, but realize this is a very slow paced island. The first time me and my husband went I read 5 books and was bored, but the second time I knew what to expect and enjoyed, I just need to slow down. At times we were the only ones on the beach and in the bar. We stayed at the Pearl's Resort and had had a breakfast and lunch ticket for 5 days out of 7. The food is expensive, the second time we went we we did not buy the food tickets, instead we packed peanut butter, crackers, beef jerky, tuna packets, etc.

GET SPONSORS, or get it subsidized; talk to travel mags (they may be interested to get a write-up and photos of "Your Tahiti Experience". Nothing venture...
