I decided to learn a new language and I can't decide to study either Portuguese or Latin.

Which one would you consider that it's the best? Is there any reason for what you choose that one?

I must say that I would be learning one of these languages for fun.

I'm not interested in any other languages so those two are the only options.

It sort of depends on why you want to learn another language. Since Latin is a dead language, most people who try to learn it do it to better understand other languages. Its structure is also very different from the languages you may be used to, so if you're expecting to learn to speak Latin the way people learn to speak French or something, you might be pretty disappointed.

I'd learn Portuguese instead...at least it's still alive.

But if talking with priests and translating ancient scripts is your thing, try Latin...why not.

I'd say Portuguese, especially Brazilian Portuguese. It's spoken in Brazil and in Portugal and Latin is a dead language. Even though you're studying for fun, I think it's better to study a language that's spoken by some people that one that's not spoken at all.

If you study Portuguese you will be able to comunicate with people from Brazil or Portugal. But if you study Latin you can read ancient readings from original text, and be able to understand from where some word came to be. But I´, not very much into history, so probably I would study Portuguese because I like talking to different people. So it depends waht would you like to us ir afterwards. Have fun!!! byeee

Latin mainly used only when you study Bible, old literatures, archaelogy, or biology. no nation use it as national languange.
Or you mistook spanish with latin? Latin people don't speak latin, they speak spanish.
If it is latin, then I suggest you study portuguese

hello... you answered my question about Portuguese and I came here to thank you... but I should have written there that I'm from Brazil, it is, that Brazilian Portuguese is my mother tongue... my advice is that you should learn this idiom, because of its beauty when spoken correctly... a friend from Brazil? ok... talk to me...
