First of all congratulations for driving in Mexico. It's the best way to see the country. The most popular road map of Mexico is the Guia Roji. One plade you can get it is http://www.gonetomorrow.com/. But if you want to know more about driving there and what to expect, see http://www.mexicomike.com. I assume you are renting a car? They will include insurance, but be aware that your credit card from the USA will not pay the deductible, except for American Express, should you have an accident, so get a low deductible. There are not a lot of interesting things to see on your route, sadly.

I agree, Guia Roji is good, but Culiacan Sinaloa is not. I know a lot of decent people from Culiacan but, on the other hand, if you want to bump into people involved in drugs, "narcos", that´s the best place in Mexico. Be careful. Read The Queen of the South by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, first.

Getting lost should only be one of your worries. I don't have a map, but you may want to get one when you go to get Mexican Insurance. That is a BIG necessity.
