There is no gelatin in Rice Krispie Treats. It's a simple (but sticky) 3 ingredient recipe.
3 T. butter
1 pkg. (large or mini) marshmallows
6 c. Rice Krispies cereal
01. Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
02. Add Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.
03. Using a buttered spatula or waxed paper, press mixture evenly into 13x9x2" pan coated with cooking spray. Cut into squares when cool.
You can also prepare it in the microwave. Just combine the butter and marshmallows in a large microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 3 minutes, stirring after 2. Follow steps 2 and 3.
You can also add chocolate chips, peanut butter, M&M's, or anything that you wish.

Rice Krispie treats are not made with gelatin, per se. The gelatin you see on the ingredient list is a subset of ingredients associated with the marshamallows which ARE used in making Rice Krispie treats. Gelatin is derived from animal hooves and bones. The animals used are generally any animal that is consumed by humans.
Kosher gelatin comes from fish bones.
I don't eat gelatin.
