I've paid between $75-100/week for home daycare. Those provided snacks and meals and I felt very comfortable and safe with the providers after being referred to them by friends and interviewing them. Locally, our childcare centers charge between$100-125/week, which seems backwards to me. Less children, more family-like environment, meals provided...as long as you can really trust your home provider, I would take that anyday.

Outside care is supposed to be pretty expensive but so is in care. I am a nanny and I get $15 an hour for up to 4 children. Most of my families have just one child. But I do live in an affluent area and I drive to their homes. I clean and do laundry when the child(ren) are sleeping. I also arrive with crafts and fun games and things to do. If you just want a babysitter that cares just for your child and they only clean up after the child, then it should be less. It really depends on the going rate where you live and what you want. I am sure you can find help at almost any rate if you look hard enough.

To be honest, I am sure there is great childcare out there but you need to be really careful. Really, check out the places and the people. Do you want some guidelines? This is what I did for my families.

I had a background check done on myself and I gave each family a copy.

My resume contains names and numbers of the people that I worked for and also provided a long list of references of people that have known me and worked with me for years.

I went to the sheriff's office and had myself fingerprinted.

If I am going to drive the child(ren), I offer to give them a copy of my driving record.

Now.... my other suggestions would be to hire someone you know or someone that has been referred to you and I would set up a nanny cam. Sad but you can't be too safe anymore.

If you go with a school/church type, I would check the better business bureau and go on line to see if they have any actions against them. Anything like that should be public record.

These things are much more important than the money.

Make a list of what you want and what you can afford. Make side by side comparisons. Even if you chose one that does not mean you cannot change your mind. Just check and double check.

There are several factors, but I've had my kids in both.

Home care - 65 dollars a week
Corporate daycare - 130 dollars a week
Medium-size daycare - 80 a week

That's for each child. The middle one was in a larger city, where pretty much everything cost more. The others were in fairly rural areas.

Supply fees were in the 50 dollars per quarter range, per child. I had to provide meals for the home care, but tuition covered two meals and two snacks at the others.:

Hope it helped.
