My husband is taking a business trip which will include one week in Sweden. Right now it's about zero degrees Fahrenheit and has scattered snow showers. What type of outerwear and shoes should he have? (We're from California and don't go to the snow much.) Remember, it's for business, and rather formal (no ski jackets).
(1) Shoes - snow boots, then change into dress shoes for meetings, or what?
(2) Coat - wool, all-weather...??
(3) Accessories - type of scarf, gloves... should the hat have ear flaps, etc.??
(4) Anything else?

THANKS!!!

I agree that it could be fun to buy clothes when he comes here, but clothes are generally more expensive in Sweden than in the U.S., so maybe it's more realistic to buy the accessories here, not the expensive stuff.

Generally, men in Sweden dress casually compared with many other countries, even business men. But maybe your husband is going to an international conference, or he is in the type of big business where dress code is stricter than that of the average guy.

1. Not too sure what you mean about snow boots. What we call snow boots in Sweden would be to overdo it, but he definitely needs warm shoes with thick rubber soles. Warm winter boots (thick soles, covering the ankle, lined with fleece or wool) are fine. They don't have to be very fashionable. "Curling boots" like those at http://www.rizzo.se/herr/index.php?categoryID=4&id=182 (or a somewhat lighter variant) are very popular here, but any warm boots would do. Outdoor winter shoes with thick soles is also an option. Black will be the most useful colour. And yes, he should probably change into dress shoes for meetings, but unless it's big business they don't have to be terribly elegant. Ordinary indoor shoes will do fine.

2. A woollen coat is of course very elegant and warm. But I think that any not too sporty coat with a warm lining would do. Weather in winter rules over elegance any day over here.

3. A warm woollen scarf will be perfect, and of course he will need warm gloves. Both are easy to buy in Sweden. There are good, inexpensive gloves with fleece lining to buy anywhere here. I don't know about the ear flaps - depends on what the hat looks like - but to stay warm sounds like a good idea. He could very well use a warm woollen cap, that he could buy here after taking a look on what the man on the street looks like. It's not at all unusual to see rather formally dressed men with a warm woollen cap in any colour (but mostly black or dark blue) pulled down far over the ears quite like the ones that 7 year olds use.

4. Long johns are definitely recommended! Those that are made of real silk are very thin, cool enough to wear indoors and yet warm enough outdoors.

specific, employer outfits continually potential a experience. no longer costume pants and a jacket. A experience and tie, preferabily in military or charcoal, could be in basic terms suitable. once you positioned on slacks and a game coat, it falls under the employer casual heading in my employer.

this is his chance to buy clothes that will be unusually good quality and style, because he will buy these items when he gets there. Get there a day early for shopping.
