i own a repair shop, and you need a new door jam switch for it ,its the one that shuts the light off when the door is always shut on it,they go bad like this ,and there cheap to repair, and easy to replace, any parts store should have one to fit it,its about a 5 minute job at the most, but that's whats making it do this,i just got done putting one on a escort that was doing this, good luck i hope this help,s.

The door ajar switch is stuck, usually in the drivers door (it's located on the outside of the door latch inside the door) and as some have said, wd40 can get it to work again but I have found in high humidity areas the fix won't last too long and will require the latch to be partially removed to replace the door switch.

Usually about an hour job and the part is about $20 from Ford.

HI there is a couple of different reasons that will cause this to happen.
A your door light switch broken, shorting,or just sticking
try some lubricant that has a rust inhibitor as well as penetrating

B where the wire for the door light comes through the door and or the lower A pillar it could be pinching , cracked , or rubbed through and grounding causing the light to stay on.

by being grounded is how your door light is activated it actually has power to the light at all times but no ground that is why it can be activated without the key being on .

GOOD LUCK BRAD

replace the dome light switch and in most ford probes the light switch is connected to the headlight switch and operates both the dome and the lights and has a delay timer and goes off after 5 to 10 seconds and is a easy fix too and can be bought at a junk yard for a very low price and isn't hard to install hope this helps and have a great day and god bless.

I've had this problem with '98 f150 as have other people I've talked to. It's the switch for the door but, it is inside the door as opposed to the older ones that were located outside the door in the jamb. The fix isn't really that expensive so let an expert do it. The door hardware and plastic panels are easily broken if not done right.

The last time I had this problem it was a grounded wire on the door switch that had the insulation wore through. The door switch puts a ground on the circuit and completes the path for the dome light.

I thought Dodgeman was the "expert"?lol There isnt a "door jamb" switch on your truck. You need to remove the door panel and access the latch. The switches are mounted on the latch, you go to a dealer, buy a new one and all you need to do is rach inside and turn the switch and it pops out. There is one per door. The problem is is that they tend to stick, they use a ball on the end that gets gummed up, sometimes you can remove them and just lube them up, but the switches are real cheap, its usually best to just get a new one to prevent further problems down the road. Good luck
