I have to mail of boxes that weigh less then that, but the boxes are pretty heavy. 1 I can lift, but the other one I can't.

that is pretty heavy for me. but, my sister was an emt and she can lift way more than that.

No, you shoud not lift that much. In Australia any article weighing over 16kgs or approx 35 pounds requires two people to lift it. That is an occupational health and safety regulation.

And you question about the average woman isn't easily answered because what exactly is the average woman?!

The average hay bale is about 70 poiunds, heavier when it first comes off the field. Lot's of women spend their lives around horses, and don't hesitate to pitch hay bales into the loft to prepare for winter. Admittedly, these women are in good shape, physically. If they can do it, most women should be able to do it. Put in the contest of a job, however, there are work regs in most countries that limit what individuals have to do. What you have to do, and what you should be able to do may be quite different. If you are in good physical condition, you should be able to lift 70 pounds without any problem. I would say no, seventy pounds is too heavy to lift regularly or even once without having training on how to lift it safely.

50 pounds is the OSH limit in Missouri.

Only if you want to have serious back problems in the future! That's way too much! Trust me. I used to think myself capable of lifting anything, and ended up with very serious neck and back problems later on.

Yes, you should always be able to pick up a couple of pounds more than you weighh, it would be the healthiest standards.
