ok, so i really want a german shephard but i dont think it would be the best for me at this time mainly because of its size. I was wondering if anybody knows of any good dog breeds/mixes that have all or most of these traits:
1)I want a friendly, family dog who is very social and likes kids but isnt too hyper all the time
2) a dog that is medium to small(not like a polmeranina or anything that small ) just not to large
3) a dog with short hair thats easy to clean
4) a dog that doesnt bark to much
5) a dog thats easy to take care of
6) a dog that doesnt need a ton or room to roam around in(I'll take it on walks almost daily and it has a semi-big yard space)

Labrador sounds great! At fist I was thinking Husky but then you said no ttoo hyper so that ruled that out lol. Good luck!

Please don't get one from a breeder, get a rescue! Most are potty trained & you'll be saving a life!

www.petfinder.com has a great selection & you can search by breed & age & size!

A French Bulldog. They are small/medium sized, short haired, they do not shed a whole lot, they are fairly quiet (they do not usually bark without a reason), and they do not need much exercise (you would not have to walk it every day). Frenchies are very sweet, family orientated dogs that like to play but they really love to cuddle too. You could also try a Boston Terrier or a Pug.

You could also try going to the shelter. They may have a mix that you find aesthetically pleasing and that has a temperament that will fit into your lifestyle.

Well, i have a Bichon Frise, she is an excellent dog. She is beautiful, doesn't bark, was easy to train, she has short hair, though some can have longer hair. She sticks to her favorite spots, under the table other than that she like to sit beside me. She loves kids and people to pay attention to her. If you don't mind the price they are great dogs to have. My mother in law owns two daschands, they are pretty dogs but they are very territorial and they have a tendacy to bite. Several of the family members have been bitten by her dogs.

A Spitz sounds perfect for you, they love people and are very friendly. The best known of the Spitz are the Eskimo dogs.
Many are long haired (and SO cute, like the Japanese Spitz) but there are short haired versions too, like the Finnish Spitz. Check the link below.

Golden Retriever/ Border Collie. Maybe Australian Shepherd mixed with Golden Retriever. She is a beautiful dog, though. Good luck!

I would suggest that you go to the AKC web site and check out the dog breeds there. I also believe they have a section that you can put in what type of dog you are looking for and it will make suggestions of dogs. You can also check out the Purina web site, they also have a section where you can find the right type of dog for you. Your local animal shelter is also a good place to go and check out what type of dogs are available. Rescuing a dog from a shelter is a wonderful thing and you can get really great dogs there. We have one and she is a wonderful, sweet, smart dog. My husband and I have never owned a better dog.

The description of what kind of dog you want sounds like the dog I saw at a dog park. It's a dog breed called Aransas Sand Terrier. They are sand color, look just like a little lab but only about 20 pounds. Just google Aransas Sand Terriers and you can see what they look like.

I would suggest a boxer. My boyfriend has a male boxer who is very social and great with kids. He is so lovable and lives to play! He is actually an inside dog and loves it..very easy to clean up after too

I think the dog for you is a terrier. Any kind would do, but look for the one that fits all your requirements. I love how cute terriers are and how lovable they are too. I have a Boxer. He is always hyper and needs a lot of room. But he's good with our family and other kids. Enjoy hunting for that perfect dog.

I rescued my dog from the pound and have not regretted it for a second. She is loving and loyal and perfect for me. She doesn't have any of the problems associated with purebred dogs (eye problems, hip dysplasia, etc.). Just a thought!
