I have a simulated diamond center stone, and can *finally* upgrade to a real diamond of similar size/carat. About how much would a good jeweler charge for labor, mounting, perhaps setting change to accomodate the new stone?

It really depends on the jeweler. I had the same thing done and they also added more prongs so I would have six instead of three. They had to take all the side diamonds out so they could re-size it and place them back in when finished. Then they added another millimeter of gold to the band. It only cost me like $110. They were a reputable store as well. I would suggest taking it to a few jeweler's and seeing what they quote you. Then decide from there which one fits your budget best.

The price on that has sooo many different variables. Is your ring platinum or gold? whats the carat? if you have a platinum ring, and I'm adding platinum to the setting it's going to be a lot more expensive than a 10K. But often a 10K when I bend it to remove the stone and replace it, breaks instead of bends. Then it's going to have more prongs added.

Size of the diamond really matters. A larger diamond is going to take more prongs to set. A small one like a chip is also going to be harder since i have to raise it up and work really hard to make it look right, being so small.

How easy is it to mount? Is it a solitare right now, or inlaid into the band like a catedral setting? Solitare takes a lot less labor time.

A setting change? Now you are talking major differences. Settings can range in price from ANYTHING. I have settings in here that just the setting is $3,000.

There are just far far too many variables on here for anyone to give you a price that is even close to accurate. It's impossible. I can tell you removing a stone and replacing it is not as easy at it seems. It's easier with a new setting. Kinda like fixing a bone. Much easier to set a currently broken bone than a completely healed, bad set that has to be rebroken and reset.

For approximation budgeting purposes, if it's between half carat and carat. Gold, not platinum. Solitare setting. with less than 2 prongs needed to be added or repaired. I'd say roughly $200-300. Go to several different jewelers and get multiple quotes. Then don't go to the cheapest.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Take the diamond & ring to a community rings shop, ask the jeweler to have it fastened for you. This in simple terms value no longer over 20 funds interior of numerous hours. or you are able to attempt to purchase some super glues and mount the diamond by potential of your self. yet ask the jeweler first as some glue can do undesirable to the putting and the stone.
