I cannot speak of Vicodin, but I can speak for Valium.
From years of personal experience, I can tell you that 90% of it is the person. For instance, I know people who get drunk or high on many various types drugs and never feel the need to try it again.
Likewise, I know people who have tried a type of drug once and now love it. It is not so much the pill, but the person.
For instance, if a person is always anxious and is good at hiding it and finds Valium, you can bet that they will love it. It produces deep relaxation that (sorry, hippies) no yoga, acupuncture, or anything else you can throw at it will even touch.
If you were to administer the same drug in the same amounts to someone not anxious, it would likely just make them tired. It may produce some relaxation, but the person would enjoy it at the time and likely not have the urge to try it every day.
Do you think alcoholics drink just because they LOVE the taste of alcohol? Generally, they drink because it makes them feel better.

that is a kind of medication i was on for a very long time because of pain. i did stop when the doctor told me too but i was getting to the point of danger with it.
the drug is fine if you only take it when in pain. the drug really messes a person up when taken when not needed. it gives a body stone buzz or electric kind of feeling over the entire body. it also can produce some very wild dreams and day dreams not hallucinations so much but just vivid day dreams.
i suppose some people get to like that so much they find the drug when its not really needed.
i have been on morphine epidural for some time and was told by the doctors that i was already hooked when i asked that they make sure i didn't end up hooked on the stuff. now at that strength the drug gives an instant total feeling of relive and that is one great feeling. they did get me off that but onto perkacet sp.
for about one year. now bear in mind i was in severe pain from a broken leg that i almost lost to a super bug.

Sorry, after 4 months (legally for pain), I still don't see why people get excited about vicodin.
Some of the other pills give you a euphoric rush, which could be appealing to some.
Let me add, these pills are dangerous for large doses, or if taken a long time.

Vicodin is a narcotic. More importantly, it is an opiate, like morphine or heroin. People takes these drugs because they are in pain (morphine) or because they need to feel really good (heroin). These drugs stimulate the same biological pathway as endorphins, which is what the body releases during certain pleasurable activities or in response to pain.
