Are you sure she's overweight? You can't always tell just by poundage - if you can feel her ribs and if you look down and see a noticeable waistline, she's probably ok.

I wouldn't say it's normal for them to gain weight in winter, but I'm not an expert.

I do recommend learning about cat nutrition so that you can ensure your cat gets the best possible diet, which will lead to the best possible health.

And it's fine that she doesn't like fish. Fish is not really the best meat for cats, and tuna is downright dangerous.

Most people suggested changing her diet and playing with her for exercise which are great suggestions, however I would make a slightly different suggestion. Some of the brands of food mention contain corn, wheat and/ or soy. These are not optimal ingredients for cats (and dogs). They can cause allergies but more specifically in your case they can lead to weight gain. Just like with people it isn't just a matter how many calories your cat eats that matters, it is also where those calories come from. Corn and wheat are inexpensive sources of protein, unfortunately they are not easily digestible and cats have to eat more of them to get the same amount of protein they get from meat/fish sources.
When choosing a new cat food check the ingredients. Look for the first and second ingredients to be meat sources (never by-products) followed by whole grains and fruit or vegetables, vitamins and minerals. We use Blue Buffalo 'Spa Select' holistic cat food for our seven cats and it is fantastic. The ingredients are top of the line. Since the protein comes from meat not grain, your cat will actually eat less then a conventional brand. Make sure when switching food you do so slowly because your kitty can get an upset stomach. Follow the package directions for switching over.
Also, you might consider trying to harness train your kitty so she can go for a walk for you on nice days.

The problem is partially in the owner's mind. They look at the food they put out and think that it just not enough, but alas, the animal does not have the stomach's a human does, nor do they have the common sense to stop eating just because they are full.

So, put out less food. There are formula's for how much food a cat would eat each day, so follow it. Stick to high protein food and don't try to think like your cat, because the cat is not human...even if you wish it to be your family member, he/she needs you to be smarter than they are and not feed them more food than they need to be healthy.

Then never forget to play with them and let them run about a bit. It will help them! Good luck

Some cats get a bit chubby in the winter becuase they tend to sleep longer and move about less. Put her on a weight management cat food and lessen the dry kibble dramatically. Dry cat food contains more calories than any canned cat food, no matter the quality. Many weight management cat food (wet and dry) contain an ingredient that helps the cat burn calories. I switched my cat to Iams Weight Management canned food this winter and I already observe that his belly bulge has lessened a great deal. He is also a lot more active than he usually is in the winter.

Maybe she is just too short for her weight like me?

Nah, get her some toys that will stimulate exercise.

A toy she can climb on or just hang a ballon a string so she can bat it and chase it. Some cats will do that for hours. That will help her stay slim and sexy so when springtime comes, all the boy cats will want to play in HER yard...

Feed her wither Eukanuba Feline restricted calorie or Hills prescription diet r/d both are very low in calories ("Light" branded foods are a con they have only slightly less calories than normal food). We have had absolutely amazing results on both foods for weight reduction. You must do it slowly aim to loose the weight over one year.
Also increase exercise by playing chase games, getting her to chase a laser pointer or torch light.
Its good she doesn't like fish food as a lot of cats are actually allergic to fish.

only feed her twice a day dry or a little wet and dry. My cats are 13 years old and one is overweight, about 12 pounds. the other is 9 pound. Fluffy has been as big as 14 pounds. She loves to eat and will overeat and get sick sometimes. We now limit her food to twice a day and separate them when they are eating.

It seems to help.

Find a small container to place the amount of dry food she should eat in 24 hrs. (make sure she cannot reach that container)Fill it up the night before or in the morning.
Feed her pouring out small portions over the day to her so you can control her total amount each day. Get her to move around by playing actively with her when ever possible.

You can try a different type of cat food and try to get her to move more by playing with her. I have found these things to help my cats in the past.

Build her an exercise wheel, and buy high quality cat food that does not contain corn fillers.
