Here's the US Transportation Security Administration's website with their list of permitted and prohibited items: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm If you're traveling into or out of the UK and Europe, the restrictions are slightly different.... metric for one thing, and 100ml bottles (3.4 oz instead of 3 oz in a one liter bag 20 cm x 20 cm (8" x 8") instead of one quart 8" x 7.75").
If you're traveling in the US, I'd go with the smaller size bottles just to be safe, but the metric size plastic bag should be OK. Check the British Airways website: http://baa.com/

your liquids and gels are limited to about 3 ounces for a carry on so if the items you are bringing are bigger than that, they have to go in the suitcase or they will confiscate them....no joke! Just saw a woman the other day have a brand new lotion she had just purchased be taken at the x ray machine. no fun! brushes and makeup will be fine, but the other products I would put in the suitcase

Nothing liquid, gel... can be larger than 3 ounces and everything must be in a quart size zip lock plastic bag. The bag has go go through the scanner separately so don't put it in the bottom of your carry on.

There are distinctive standards as to what you could address as save on bags, that's suited to study with who you're flying with, it is going to selection, the small print would be on the information superhighway internet site of your provider.
