If you want an explaination from the dictionary:
1 a (1) : strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties (2) : attraction based on sexual desire : affection and tenderness felt by lovers (3) : affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests b : an assurance of love
2 : warm attachment, enthusiasm, or devotion
3 a : the object of attachment, devotion, or admiration b (1) : a beloved person : DARLING -- often used as a term of endearment (2) British -- used as an informal term of address
4 a : unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another: as (1) : the fatherly concern of God for humankind (2) : brotherly concern for others b : a person's adoration of God
5 : a god or personification of love
6 : an amorous episode : LOVE AFFAIR
7 : the sexual embrace : COPULATION
8 : a score of zero (as in tennis)
9 capitalized, Christian Science : GOD
In my opinion, love is a feeling of attraction that does not waver. When you are in love, you know you will do anything for the person you love. Love is also easily mistaken for infatuation or obsession so be careful!

Love. That my friend, is interpreted in so many possible ways that it's basically unexplainable. Just like there's more than one kind of love, there's more than one way to describe love. It just happens to be how the persons view love. To me though, love is when you just lie in your bed thinking of that one person who means so much to you. It means thinking of that one person who won't leave your mind to finally let you drift away into your dreams... knowing that you'll have them the way you've always wanted, and waking up the next morning filled with excitement like a child walking down the stairs on Christmas morning. It means everytime you hear someone sign onto the computer your hearts skips a beat hoping it's them. It means listening to the phone ring in hopes that it's them even though you know that it isn't. It means looking over all the old notes, letters, clippings, or even pictures of that person to make you smile at least once that day. Lastly, it means thinking of their scent as you picture yourself wrapped around their arms, grasping you so tight that you feel protected that no one can ever harm you. With all this said, love to me, should make you feel like you're on top of a cloud looking down at the terrain dried from the summers sun, but as the cloud dissipates, you stumble falling towards the earth slowly smashing into a garden filled with roses.

Love is a verb. An action, not a feeling. Love is placing someone else before yourself. When another person's happiness and wellbeing are more important to you than your own, you love them. When you can honestly say that you would, without hesitation, sacrifice your life for another, you love them.
Many people confuse love with being "in love." "In love" is the emotion, the feeling, the high that comes with an intimate relationship. That feeling comes and goes, just like happiness, anger, and grief. Feelings are temporary. But if you truly love someone, you will not forsake them, even when the feeling of being "in love" fades. If you love them, enough to stand beside them even when that feeling ebbs, you will eventually experience the joy of having that feeling return. Just like joy or sorrow, it will invariably return.
I take my understanding of love from the Bible. John 15:13 says "Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."
Hopefully you have found this helpful.

Love gives you million of reasons to cry and billions of reason to smile. It hurts but you say it's ok. Every negative turns into positive. That's love.
