Muscles get knots called trigger points. These make the muscles tight causing them to press on nerves and other thing.
Pain can be referred from places other than the head.
#1 The first thing is to take a couple swigs of molasses or eat a couple of bananas. They contain magnisium and potassium both of which muscles need.
#2 WATER she should be drinking 1/2 gallon minimum. The head of neurology at UCDavis likens a body running low on water to a car running low on oil (the engine can seize).
Get a good (deep tissue) massage (to loosen the trigger points) on the back, shoulders and neck. Make sure to press up at the base of the skull where it meets the spine.
You rub or lightly scratch everywhere on your head. You will hit spots that are tender these are trigger points. The idea is to rub across them 6-12 times per session up to six times per day until they go away.
For more information on trigger points read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.

Hello,

Ok this may or may not work but you should try using a bean bag. What it is, is a bag which can be warmed in the microwave and then applied to your neck or body parts which are sore. If you dont wanna spend money try a hot towel damp it or throw it in the dryer!

Good Luck and All the best to recovery

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

I try to keep short.
When I was young in school, I remember this exercise we did where we roll our head around. OK, now as I grew older, I have to lay a pillow on the couch and stretch my head back. Just relax and let it drop, pop and whatever, as far back as possible. Roll it around and all that stuff. But, just the other day, I was telling friends how we should have stayed with the roll your head around exercise. I truly believe this what lead to what Doctors call "Stiff Neck".
Tylenol and Ibuprofen work too.

HAve someone rub your neck in circular thumb motions starting from the very top of the center of the back of your neck and work downwards slowly then back up, then back down and moving towards the shoulders so very slowly.

A tylenol always helps too. But try the rub.

Well...if we knew what caused it, maybe we could help.

If it's from lack of sleep, go to bed.
If it's from lack of caffeine, drink a soda or coffee.
Muscular injury, take an anti-inflammatory like Aleve, as well as an analgesic like tylenol or aspirin.
Nerve pain, see your neurologist.
If it's a dull, throbbing ache, try heat.
Otherwise, slap an ice pack on it for 20 minutes in addition to the meds.

A generous dose of Dr. Higg's Medicine Stick

P.S. the bean bag thingy is called a bed buddy. any heat will work well, and possibly Ibuprofen or a muscle relaxer.

Ooh yeah, that bean bag thing you put in the micromave is awesome! And if you don't have one, you can use plain white rice in a cloth "sock"...actually, I bet you COULD use a sock tied in a knot. But yeah I would say Advil and the bag-o-rice would be your best bet.
