While food might be a good way to earn your cats trust, another way is to just go into the garage and cat normal. Do your own thing. And slowly, your cat will learn that your okay. You can also try putting your scent around the place. (eg. clothing, bags..) That'll let the kitten get use to yr smell.
This works the best when you put it around her food dish. this'll help him relate the food (something good) to you.
As for your cat, you can check it up on the net as there are hundreds of ways to let them get use to each other. (sorry, it's WAY to long) But, one thing you should know, since yr other cat (the older one) has been the olny cat in the house for quite some time, it might take a while for her to get use to the idea of sharing the house.
Anyway, just to give you an idea, put the kitten's scent around the house (eg. food bowl) and vice versa. This'll help them get use to each other's smell. Remember to let them relate each other to something good. eg. food and playtime. (by putting each other's scent around them when they eg. play)
A last word of advice: Don't be sadden if they don't become friends very soon. Since your female cat is quite old, it could take perhaps, a few mths? But this is hardly the case. Soo...
Good luck. :)

it sounds like a feral, or wild kitten. As far as getting near the kitty, it may take a bit of time and patience. Make your presence known alot so kitty can get used to you, but don't make any sudden moves toward it. The kitty may attack in self defense, and you do not know if the kitty is healthy or sick at this point. When you can get close enough to handle it, use thick gloves and long sleeves. It is best to just put the kitty in a carrier to take to the vet. Once you have a clean bill of health for kitty, introduce it slowly to your other cat. put them in the same room for short intervals with your supervision and see how they react. They may get along right away or it may take awhile. It is best to keep the cats separated when you are not around until you are comfortable leaving them alone togeather.

I take it their mum has abandoned them? First make sure they are healthy if you want to raise them and ensure they are not sneezing, have no eye discharge/nasal discharge - if you want take them to the vet for a check up. Raising 3 week old kittens involves a lot of work can they toilet by themselves yet? If they can't you need to stimulate this as the mum would. Take the corner of a paper towel and run it under warm water then wipe over the kittens genitals to stimulate urine and faeces production if they can do this on their own it's better. Try them with a dry animal milk replacement which you will need to make up as per instructions you should be able to buy it from a pet shop/vet and feed the required amount to them either in a small saucer/lid or if they won't drink on their own you will have to feed them yourself via a syringe which you should be able to get from a vet/shelter usually 4, 3ml syringes full 5-7x daily is ok. The kittens may even eat small amounts of kitten food so try this first as the more they can do themselves the less there is for you. You need to keep them warm too. If you prefer you can take them to the shelter but bear in mind the shelter may think they are too young so they may not keep them or may have too many to foster out. But if you ask if you can foster them and once they are big enough (around 1kg) would they be able to find them homes. Unless you want to keep them.

Number one is don't let that cat near your cat... there are a lot of diseases that it could have after being in the wild. I have never been able to turn a wild cat into a tame cat, I have personally tried 3 different times. SO, get it to the vet to check it out, try if you think you can tame it, but from my experience, it's a lot easier to let it outside to remain wild - and just put food down outside the door and it will start coming around and consider your yard it's yard.

The best way to make a stray who is shy fall in love with you is to feed it. Don't force yourself on it. In a while it will love you because you are acting as it's mother and feeding it. I bought a cat from a pet store once. The poor thing was afraid of me. I gave it one of the bedrooms as it's own and put food and water in there. After a while she ventured out into the livingroom. But only for a few seconds. Then she ran back to the safety of her room. It took a long time but she finally trusted me not to force myself on her. Right now I'm crying because I have lost her to diabetes and kidney failure. I had her for 12 years. Good luck with this kitten. It needs all your love. Thanks for making me cry. I think I needed to do this.

He's obviously feral(wild) so it will just take some time try asking the vet for a mild sedative to put in his food so that you can take him to the vet and get him checked out. He needs to be tested for feline lukemia before you ever let him anywhere near your older cat and anywhere she goes.

i once had a stray cat hanging around my house along with my house cat. both got pregnant at the same time and because of winter coming i was worried about the stray having her babies outside. i talked to the stray along with my cat let her see me rub her and handle her until within a few weeks she felt comfortable enough to come in the house. i eventually had two mother cats with 6 babies a piece. the stray even let me rub her during delivery and her babies. it just takes patience and a little love.

good for you taking in a kitty in need.. and you should take him to the vet to get him checked out once he gets to that point
but just spend time around him.. you don't need to handle him to earn his trust, and at first you probly shouldn't.. just sit out there with him, give him treats, and try not to threaten him in anyway.. and eventually he'll come around.. probly a lot quicker than you think, especially since he's young

It can be very difficult to tame the stray. Depending on how old he is, you may not be able to.
Use food to bribe him near. A few good meals may change his mind.
