If you are set on the 6 MP mark (and that is perfectly fine), I agree with Koko and Petra, who will undoubtedly say the same thing. The Canon SD700-IS is an excellent choice.

However, for only about $20 more, you can get the SD900, which has a larger sensor (abotu twice as big) and should give better images. I finally got MINE yesterday and it looks very promising.

Check out this comparison page. Click on "In-depth review" and "Read Owner Opinions" for each camera. Be sure to note that the reviews are many pages long so you don't stop after page one. Check the sample images, also. You can enlarge these to full size images if you click on the link below the picture. You will have to then put your cursor in the white space to the right of the picture and click once. After that, you can pass your cursor over the image and it will turn into a magnifier. Click it as a magnifier once and the image will go to full size and you can really examine the detail or look for artifacts like fringing or noise.

If you don't mind a somewhat larger camera, the Canon A600-series will give you more user control if you want that. The A630 is 8 MP and this is the camera my son has. It's a great camera. I'm putting the comparison page showing the A630 and A640, because there is not a review at this site for the A630, but there are several comments about it in the other review.

If the price doesn't discourage you, the Canon G7 is a very good camera.

The best 6MP point and shoot at the 6MP mark I would say is thee Canon SD700IS becaues it has IS and its a pretty slim camera. If you dont mind that its a lil on the expensive side but I love it for my take around everyday camera.
