The media would proclaim her as a symbol for other women who are in her same predictiment and really want to play sports but are not allowed to or frowned upon because of tradition. She would be like a role model for others that if she could succeed and break free of the sterotypes, she would pave the way for others to do the same thing. Some traditions are great to keep and are very hard to break. However, when a tradition stands in the way of your happiness then it is time to weigh the pros and cons in your own mind to see if it should be done.

I'm not sure if i understand your question exactly, but i believe i do.

If she is on strike because they will not let her play sports, then she is a symbol of determination and belief in equality for all. She is a symbol because she is standing up for something that is normally frowned upon in her country, but she believes it is right so she is standing up for it.
