ok, here's my situation. I've been on the pill for about two years. during my last pack i messed up and ended up taking one pill four hours late and then about a week later, the same thing happened. After i messed up on the first pill, my boyfriend wore a condom everytime we had sex after that. during the week i was supposed to get my period, i only got dark brown spotting (kinda alot the first day, then extremely light the following 2 days). The thing that complicates the situation even more is that the month before i had this same type of "period." so i'm wondering if i could be preggo from two months ago. i don't think i messed up on my pills two cycles ago, but i think i would have freaked out during my first "period" like that. i haven't had any other symptoms, although i may be one of those people that doesn't have any. i'm a poor college student, that's why i don't want to spring for a HPT yet. i know this is confusing, but any insight would be extremely benificial. thanks!

If you have been on the pill for 2 yrs and only missed it by 4 hours, then you shouldn't have a problem. If you are really worried, then make your boyfriend buy the test to put your mind at ease. Good luck.

You could be. I got pregant on the pill. On my period, on the pill. Damn, aren't I special? It COULD just be the way your body is reacting to these pills...sometimes after a woman has been on the pill for a while her cycles will slack off a bit. It was very smart of you to have your boyfriend use a condom when you didn't take your pills regularly, but it is still possible that you got pregnant and the bleeding you have been having is simply withdrawal bleeding from the lack of artificial hormones when you go on the inactive pills. The only way to ease your mind and know for sure is to take an HPT. They aren't THAT expensive, at least not compared with diapers. Or you could go to your local planned parenthood, sav-a-life, or health department to get a free test done. I hope you're not pregnant, since that's the whole point of birth control anyway, but it is possible and the sooner you know the better, so you can prepare yourself for whatever you need to do. ANd don't worry...the pill WILL NOT hurt a baby that is conceived...it only stops you from ovulating in the first place, it does not harm an ambyo that's already conceived. Good luck!

Missing your pill by only four hours twice is not a recipe for getting pregnant. Now, a lighter than usual period CAN indicate a pregnancy, but you would've experienced that only one month...not twice. Alot of women who find out they are pregnant say they did have a light period after they conceived. That is not uncommon. Drinking alcohol can also make your peiods light, as well as rigorous excersize. So, if you have had an increase in either of those activities lately, that could be the culprit. If you truly are freaked out about the possibility of a pregnancy, i agree with one writer, get your boyfriend to spring for a test. Any dollar store sells them , starting at a buck! Good luck to you!

Darling, if you had been for two years taking the pill, then you should not worry getting pregnant right away. According to studies, a woman who is been on the pill for quite some time (lime you have) would take a cleaning of your system in order to get pregnant, and that could be even take months. So I wouldn’t worry that much. Now that doesn’t mean it can’t happen. God bless.

well first off if you are experiencing your period then you are not pregnant, because if you were, you would have been late and not have had it at all. secondly, you have to remember that the "pill" is only about 98% affective so you must always be careful and try to avoid those little mishaps you have had. and finally these symptoms you are having could be a side affect of the "pill", so you should definitely see a doctor.

The new pills are less effective - the FDA approved them (http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2007... ) and no one seemed to mind at the time but it is resulting in a higher number of pregnancies while on the pill so yes you could be pregnant. Take a test ASAP and see your Dr for more information. Good Luck!

The pill is not perfect, so you could be pregnant. Failure is typically due to "user error," but I don't think your particular error (4 hours late) is any big deal. But you COULD be pregnant. HPTs are not THAT expensive, especially for the peace of mind it brings. If you really can't afford the $6-9, then hit the Dollar Store.

If you really want a pregnancy test but don't have the money, you can try going to your local health department. With your finances being like they are, they will probably test you for free.
