So I am considering a job with a family in the area as a housekeeper. The pay is pretty good - $250 a week for 25 hours of work but the wife has some strange requests
- she wants me to wear a uniform black dress and pantyhose
- she wants me to serve her and her friends at their weekly get together, I think she is showing me off
- she asked if I knew how to do nails
I get the impression that she is a bit of snob, but I have nothing to go with. What should I do?

I work part time as nanny and would never accept the job you are seeking unless in really needed money. Your pay seems good but a nanny cares for the children and only picks up the children's mess and a housekeeper keeps up with the house( cleaning, ironong some errands). as far as the uniform, which is rare in part time work, i agree with others that say make her pay for it then have keep up wit the dry cleaning bill. and as far as the nails, technically a beautician should do that. if she can afford to have a nanny, she should be able to afford a $10 manicure at a nail shop where they are trained and certified to do that. if you agree to take this job, for your sake, please have a contract that includes the task and hours you are willing to perform. (i noticed someone else said your work load and hours would increase) and you can have it signed by a notarty(maybe $10). this way if she fires you for not wanting to do a strange request you cvan recieve some compensation. good luck!!

Make the most of it.. be professional.. make sure the hours and rules are set and stuck to.. dont let her treat u like crap.
if she wants u to do nails, tell her is she pays fro u to do a course to learn it then you will do it, at least thats another thing you can do to make extra cash whenever you need to! Its a skill. Then charge her friends for it.
The uniform is a bit strange in these times but if she is a pleasant and reasonable boss then its not too bad.
At least if thats the field you plan to stay in, it will look really good on your resume.. maybe you could be a housekeeper for someone really rich one day..

I would not work for her personally. She is trying to keep you beneath her and what the hell about the nails??
I have a housekeeper/nanny who works roughly 20-25 hours a week and we pay her $300 a week plus expenses plus bonuses. And I would never DREAM of asking her to wear a uniform or "seve" me and my guests. You're not getting that great of a deal and she sounds like she has the potential to be nasty. Good luck.

I would be very skeptical as well. A person like that seems more likely to look down on you terribly. I hate people like that. It also sounds to be like you are going to be hired as a nanny/housekeeper for those 25 hours and then once you are hired your expected duties and hours will increase dramatically.

10.00 / hr. Depending on the cost of living where you live I am not sure but in Illinois That's not all that good of money to be treated like a slave! If you think you can handle it go for it but if she belittles you remember there are other jobs out there. Nobody is better than you.
Been there done the cleaning thing HATED IT!

Ummmm, if you need the money, you need to do what your boss tells you. But I would NOT wear a uniform! Ugh! Tell her the uniform is an extra $50 a week, and that the nails is an extra $25 everytime you do them. WORK IT GIRLFRIEND!!!!

I think she wants to show you off and make you a bit of a personal slave. As nanny you should be taking care of her children, not doing her nails or serving drinks.
