Just earlier today i noticed that when my 2 year old male dachshund mix urinates a couple of drops of blood comes out. He is acting normal in every way, he is eating, drinking, and having normal bowel movements and he is his normal hyper self. What could this blood be from? I will be taking him to a vet, but i would like to know before i take him in what might be wrong with him.

He is already neutered and has been neutered for some time now.

The most common causes for blood in the urine include:

1) urinary tract infection
2) bladder stones
3) bladder tumor (uncommon in younger dogs)
4) immune disorders which cause red blood cells to die in the veins (like immune mediated hemolytic anemia - google it)

For a young male dog, the most common would be urinary tract infection. Your vet will probably want to check a urine sample, and maybe an x-ray to look for stones.

I just had my 7 year old boxer castrated because he was leaking blood, not when he urinated it just came out in puddles, I never noticed when he urinated if there was blood but when I took him to the vet($2000.00 later after extensive tests) I found out that male dogs intact were more prone for prostate cancer if left intact and not fixed.
I have not seen anymore leakage or blood since the procedure was done, but I am still crossing my fingers he will be OK.

With blood in the urine there are three likely sources -- from the bladder, from the kidneys and from a clotting disorder leading to generalized bleeding tendencies. Occasionally there is a problem in the urethra or vaginal areas of female dogs leading to blood in the urine but this is less common that the above problems. Bleeding from the bladder usually occurs because of cystitis (bladder infection), bladder stones or bladder cancer. Bleeding from the kidneys can also be due to kidney infection, kidney stones or cancer affecting the kidney. In addition, traumatic injuries may lead to bleeding from the kidneys.

It could be from an injury, infection or maybe crystals in the urine. It's nothing to fool around with. I would get a vet to take a look ASAP. Please call your vet in the morning!

That happened to my dog once. I took her to the vet and it turned out it was only a bladder infection. He put her on antibiotics and it cleared up with no problem.

Sounds like a urinary tract infection or a bladder infection, but do take him to the vet!
