So, in the bible, Gambling or "Games of chance" is a sin.
So, why do many churchs hold Bingo nights? And offer cash, or other types of prizes! Bingo isn't anymore differnt that "gambling" as it is a game of chance. (If anyone says its not..you need help)
So, my question to you, is why is BINGO allowed by God, but stractch cards, card games and slot machines are sinful?

Let's start with why the church frowns on games of chance... follow me back some 2000 years... up on a hill we call Calvary (I believe the Romans called the place Golgatha... or Place of Skulls).... regardless of what you call it, it is the site where the province's capital punishments are administered. (We could go into a long drawn out discussion about the brutality of Crucifixion, but I'll spare you the gorey details). A man is here, having been nailed to a cross, convicted of no crime, but executed anyway... kinda disturbing thought... this man was Jesus... and at the foot of the cross where he is dying... soldiers are casting lots (playing dice) for his clothes. Wouldn't that bother you a bit? Me too...
However, others have already pointed out that the Bible does not specifically forbid gambling... it does however caution us to (1) avoid even the appearance of wrong doing and (2) avoid anything to which we could become subjegated or addicted.
There is nothing wrong with Bingo, or any other game. The problem comes in when an individual allows the game to become a major focus of life.
Churches using games of chance as fundraisers are on shaky ground because God obviously has a serious problem with people swindling folks out of their money in the church. (Drop me a line sometime to talk about why Jesus lost his grip and started kicking over tables of the vendors during one of the Jewish festivals at the temple).
In short: gambling isn't a sin... letting is run or ruin your life IS.

1 Corinthians 6:12: "Everything is permissible for me"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"—but I will not be mastered by anything.
Don't be a slave to it, don't become addicted and I think you're ok. If you personally feel convicted against playing Bingo, don't. I am a Baptist who's played Bingo a few times. I'm financially responsible and tithe regularly-- I didn't play to win money-- I played for the same reasons you might go bowling-- to hang out with friends and be social. (Neither time was church sponsored.)

Churches do NOT hold gambling sessions like this.
Please educate the church (if it is one).
The church is a house of prayer. Know what Jesus did to the people who made money out of the house of prayer? They were whipped.
Apparently, these churches are not houses of prayer, they are gambling dens in disguise of religion.
If 'christians' want to find fun, they should not be in the church. The church is a solemn place for WORSHIP. No horseplaying, no giggling during service and certainly no games in the service hall. If 'christians' do not even know what is reverence towards God, they are better off away from Church. Otherwise they will be reaping curses on themselves.

Have you ever been to a Bingo hall on a Saturday night? Have you seen those geezers? They're crazy vicious, playing each game like it's their last. They're super competitive, to the point of swearing and violence, not to mention superstitious. Would *you* want to get in their way? You might get daubed to death. No, it's better to let them get on with it, and let the chips - or is it bingo balls? - fall where they may.

It's not that gambling is wrong
but that the people in the church were using it for secular reasons instead of for God.

Ha ha! I love that explaination! Now if we could only tell our Senior citizens that! I think it is fine to play gaming for amusement, but not for money. Then the gaming just becomes an addiction for money. It says, for the root of money comes all evil" *this is not just an exact quote of the original scripture-just paraphrase.*
