There is nothing wrong with talking to him. You might find that you do have things in common. If not, then you made a new friend. That's always good to have.

That's what i felt at one time. There was this guy that i really liked but the thing was that I was a punker and he was like a popular person. I don’t know what he was but he was the opposite of me. Well, anyways, I met his twin brother (faternal) at raging waters. Well his brother liked me but I wasn’t interested so I said no. then his brother David (the guy I liked) started talking to me about why I didn’t go out w/his brother. I told him that I just didn’t want to. So we started talking more and more but I still didn’t know him. Well at the same time I was having trouble with my friends and I started crying. so I went with my other friends and he kicked it right there and he knew them. So there I was crying my eyes out and he came over all concerned. I didn’t want him to see me like that so I left, but later I came back. He ended up comforting me and he kissed me in the cheek. Well a few weeks later he kissed me and we went to a formal together. We then went out. He told me that no one wanted him to becuz I was a punk but he said he didn’t care. We've been going out for 8 months now.
So you should try talking to him but don’t seem desperate or anything. You should just get to know him and flirt with him alittle but not to much cus he’ll think ur weird. Well good luck! :)

You won't know what you have in common until you try. It could be much more than you expect. And do you want to spend months wondering what could have happened? Go talk to him an find out.
No talking = no chance of hanging out
Talking = maybe a chance to hang out, maybe not.
