Religion should not be the reason a program should be enacted, but it is fair for people to discuss how they feel about a policy religiously.

For instance: We have laws forbidding forcing people to be Christians, but I personally believe it is ALSO in the best interest of religious people to not allow a religion to be forced on a person. Forcing a person to become a Christian only produces another hypocrit "christian." And they are more damaging to the cause of Christianity than the "heathens." Free choice is required to become a true, loving Christian.

To use this fact to persuade a militant (and confused) Christian who wants Christianity forced on every one is reasonable.

But one should never act like this is THE reason.

Google TOMMY DOUGLAS.
He is the reason we have Universal Health Care, Disability Pensions, and Unemployment Insurance in Canada. Without selfless people of FAITH, these things would not get done. If someone invokes religion, such as DOING THE RIGHT THING. It is never wrong.

Why have a social program that needs religion to justify it? A social program should be about to be justified by what it does, not by some idealogy.

Isn't that one of the reasons this country was founded, to escape government imposed religion? I don't think we should relive the past.

They should absolutely not invoke religion. They should invoke anything that involves EVERYBODY, and what EVERYBODY feels and can agree on.
