i rear-ended someone at a low speed and the air-bag deployed on my car, i cut it out and have been driving with a slightly damaged steering column since then. is this illegal?

No it's not illegal but it's not safe cus when i hit some one with my 1990 Dodge Omni the Airbag deployed it really didn't do much damaged to the body so i still have the car and drive it around all the time and the cops new it was deployed and i still drove it home and every where i go. so ya thats your answer

It's supposedly illegal to remove or otherwise disable airbags and drive without them in a vehicle meant to be equipped with airbags. It's not illegal to have existing airbags deactivated as long as the DMV knows and you have permission from NHTSA. Also you must carry supplemental insurance to cover you and anybody in the car should you be injured in an accident where an airbag would have made a difference in your getting injured or the severity of your injuries.

This could be a state by state law so you may want to contact the insurance company and ask. Dont tell them its you though.

Here's what I want to know... what's gonna happen if you get into a real accident? Don't you want that fixed anyway? Shop around for the lowest rate and get that fixed asap...

It is not illegal. But the resale of the vehicle just hit rock bottom.

I don't think it's illegal but your insurance company may have something to say about it.
