Good black and white photography is about lighting and exposure and depth effects. Unless you have a good quality camera, you'll probably find you won't have the flexibility to take truly "artistic" photographs.

If you don't have lights - borrow them or buy them. Then learn about depth-of-field.

Take photos of what you see in your own eyes, not what you may think some one else may like. Each person sees the world through a camera lens in a different way. Always be yourself inside. If it makes you happy inside to see what you have done, then that is all that matters.

Black and white photography is a world of it's own. A world of lights and shadows. Photo graphically you neeed lights and umbrellas to soften the light on the subject, this can also be accomplished by using a hot shoe flash and tilt it toward the ceiling to soften the light by bouncing it off the ceiling. The best B&W pictures are of people, the B&W can amplify their moods............

trust what you see not what others see dont try to get that ultimate picture because it doesn't come. its the ones that you dont expect to come out good that do. take your time dont hurry taking the image, try to relax. it will come. you need good lights mood and the right background. try to make sure to background is not bussy this detracts from the final image, look for intresting props to include, but keep it simple and you should get on ok
