Hmnnn... Depends on why and how he was diagnosed with Hypertension or High Blood Pressure to start with.

The logical and common sense approach is yes lose weight and your blood pressure should (I say should - depends on what is causing the HBP) as there is less body weight etc for the Heart to pump blood round etc.

Losing weight would be a good idea anyway (as long as the person is not anorexic) but it really depends on what else the Doctor feels is happening and also how much the Blood Pressure falls when you lose the weight.

The one thing your friend should NOT do is reduce the number of pills they are taking without their Doctors permission just because they feel that after losing weight they think they now feel OK. If their Doctor is a responsible one (and most usually are) then they would be only too happy to get your friend to reduce their consumption of tablets.

Most likely yes. In order for fat cells to live, they need blood. So, as someone gains weight, their blood vessels branch and grow and increase in number to accomodate the new fat cells. This puts a lot of work on the heart. So, if the weight is lost, then the heart will not have to work as hard to supply blood to all of those cells. So, I think the number of pills could potenitally come down. However, there are other factors involved with blood pressure. But, many people who are overweight, have high blood pressure and diabetes. Ive heard of people who lose the weight being able to stop their meds, and their diabetes greatly improving, or even going away all together. Tell your friend to shart slow, but Im sure he can do it. Best of luck.

I also have high blood pressure, or hypertension, as the doctors call it. I only take 2 pills per day though. If he loses weight, it will go down slightly and he wont feel the symptoms as much (hot flashes, headaches, sweating) but once you have high blood pressure, you have it for life. The only thing you can do is take the pills and try and keep yourself healthy so you dont have a stroke. However, the higher his blood pressure, the more pills he will need to take. So yes if he loses weight, his doctor will adjust his meds accordingly.

Absolutely, the pharmaceutical companies are the ones that put out the saying, once you have high blood pressure you have it for life, i do not believe at all. Of course it is hard to lose weight but will help a lot with his blood pressure.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

absolutely....a healthy diet and weight loss is key to lowering blood pressure...a healthy weight means the body doesnt have to pump blood to all the extra adipose tissue...granted he could have high blood pressure normally in which case he would still need the meds but in most cases adopting a healthier lifestyle does help lower blood pressure..in fact when diagnosed with high bp or high cholesterol, the first thing doctors suggest is changing lifestyle habits, because BP meds have lots of side effects...
