Shingles is contagious, so be sure not to touch that area of your body to anyone. It occurs as a result of the chickenpox virus you get as a kid. So, as a kid you get chickenpox, and for some reason, your immune system doesn't kill it all off. White blood cells, which are part of your immune system, scan your whole body for infection, except for your nerves. White blood cells cant get into your nerves. So thats where the little bugger of a virus goes to hide. It stays dormant in your nerves until something triggers it, it could be stress, etc. And then it manifests itself as shingles. Oh and by the way shingles is NOT herpes. Shingles is caused from a virus called varcilla Zoster (aka chickenpox). And herpes simplex 1 and Herpes simplex 2 are caused from Herpes Zoster. They come from the same family of viruses but are not the same. The guy above me is refering to herpes simplex 2 when talking about cold sores, which is different than shingles. Medicines that treat viral infections need to be taken exactly as ordered to work well. So, dont skip any doses, or stop them early if youre feeling better. Hope this helps.

Shingles are painful and annoying. The doctor can give you proper meds to help them subside. Here are some other suggestions. Try a product called PK4. It's made from essential oils and will absolutely give you relief and healing. You may order it at 1-800-596-5963. A four oz. bottle will last for a very long time and costs only $24.95. It is applied as a light mist. It has many other uses, and you won't waste a drop. A wonderful man named Reuben Chambless, or something close, owns the company and he will advise you. Just a simple blend of essential oils like tea tree . It is antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and stimulates the immune system. A true miracle in a little clear spray bottle.
Herbs are available to help you get better quickly. Just call any reputable health food store. Get well soon.

Shingles is a herpes. Cold sores are a different Herpes. Supplemental LYSINE (it is an amino acid- a protein) helps cold sores. Get some and try it. Take quite a bit as soon as the shingles start to bother you, then taper to some maintenance dose. It can't hurt, and might help. Somebody said you shouldn't take lysine daily for more that three weeks, then take a week off. I can't for the life of me understand why, for it is just a simple protein.
