Depends on how responsible you are with those weapons. I believe a person should be capable of arming himself to whatever extent he or she deems necessary to protect him or herself from "whatever."

Unfortunately, some people are too stupid to be responsible. I won't speak too much about them, other than to say that there are many of them out there. My biological mother, for instance. Her and her husband spend half their time liquored up and run around the house in the dark with their little laser sights shining all over the place when they hear a noise at night.

Realize that if push comes to shove, it will be you against a very large group of people that will take you down quicker than you can blink, armed or not. The best scenario in that case is to run for the hills and hope it blows over... unless you belong to one of those freaky militias where they walk around in fatigues and live under their "military leader" who is more like a dictator than anything.

If that's what you want to do (if so, what are you trying to escape from that could be worse?), go ahead, but beware if you have a family. For some reason "leaders" like that seem to have a sick fondness for little kids.

Okay, I guess I'm going a bit off on a tangent here. Needless to say, there are other ways to protect yourself than just to arm up. First and foremost, be sure that you are capable of using the firearms if you buy them, and are willing to actually kill with them.

Also, martial arts training is important. Good cardiovascular health is also important. You never know when you might just have to drop everything and run.

Another thing that's important? Don't stress out over it. It's not good to spend every day worrying about when the government's going to go all 1984 on you. Live a little, enjoy your family, laugh and love. It's not all blood, dirt and corruption out there.

A little preparedness goes a long way. Being too prepared and spending all your time worrying about it just makes you a freak.

By the way, to the guy who posted above about 9/11 being a big conspiracy... perhaps if you can tell me how they managed to get all the firefighters, engineers, volunteer personel, private citizens, police, news crews, and everyone else that was there that day or was involved in the investigation to keep their mouth shut about how it was an inside job, then you might convince me.

Otherwise, I'm just going to write you off as being just another idiot.

Edit:

David P - why not write it out here in an edit... that way the whole world will know :) Blow it wide open! I'm sure that your excellent detective skills and the knowledge you gleaned from multiple watchings of "Loose Change" will provide everyone with a bit of insight into the "9/11 Conspiracy."

Unfortunately most of the public seems content to allow it to get to that terrible point. I don't realistically see any other option but total slavery.

If people could only know that 9/11 was an inside job this nation might be salvaged.

As it is we are heading toward 1984 style tyranny very very fast. The only thing blocking them is the second amendment and a few glorious fools who will not give up their guns no matter what everybody else is happily led to believe by the 8 people running the media.

I doubt those few (million) glorious fools are enough to stop the illegal seizure of the United States.

"The strongest reason for the people to retain thier right to keep and bear arms is as a last defense against tyranny in government." -Thomas Jefferson. I would say arm yourself and be ready for the worst, whatever that may be. I have a couple rifles and some ammo, but the best way to prepare would be to practice shooting. Owning the tools is not enough, knowing how to handle them is the most important. One solid rifle and skill beats the hell out of 20 rifles. "They just hope that we'll never wake up, because they never want to meet us on the battlefield." - Not sure who said that, but its good anyway!

fucheridid,

The constitution gives people the right to keep and bear arms. Many people think that the reason for that is to keep the government in check.
Arming yourself should be the last resort (if your reason is defending yourself from the government). Owning a gun and being responsible about it is not a bad idea. Gun ownership is good for your self esteem, but know your rights and how and when to use it. They are not toys. If you don't want the responsibility, then don't buy the gun.

under martial law they wouldnt hold people out for long ... they would disarm sections or towns at a time and not many would resist ... the US population is being settup to be disarmed by allowing the legislation being passed these days to go unchallenged as well ignoring the population control infrastructure being built around us ...

No, if we in the USA buy guns and ammo we will kill more than our enemy countries but also our fellow Americans.

buy as much as you can handle.

i believe everyone should own a gun to protect themselves, but i think that you are too worried if you think we will need them for war.
