No, I don't think you should be fired. She should take this opportunity to enlighten you, not punish you.
And, while your assumption might have been wrong, it's understandable where you're coming from. Most of the images we get of Muslim people are from the middle east, who talk a certain way and have names like that. But Muslims can be any race, and people from the middle east can be any religion.
You should go to her and honestly say that you don't have much knowledge on the subject, and you are sorry if you offended her.

Oh she probably took it the wrong way and misunderstood.
Just like maybe if someone said that Christians believe in 3 Gods,(even though Christians don't believe that Jesus, HS and the Father are all one God) a Christian might have taken it the wrong way.
Just tell her you are sincerely sorry and you didn't mean any harm or disrespect. Just tell her you situation and then I'm sure she will understand. At this point in time I'm sure many Muslims can get offended by the smallest things
(just as the Jews during the Holocaust and Christians during the Roman Empire)
No you shouldn't be fired..try getting her a gift for her and her husband or something.
BTW/ how is it possible to tell someone what another persons faith is..when you haven't even met, seen or asked him any Q's about it. w/e
anyway hope that helped

You can't make someone understand when they're feeling insecure. Muslim is not a nationality, however your intent did not appear to be malicious. Therefore I'd say your bosses wife has a personal problem not related to the incident you mentioned. Your being put into a position of defense for a transgression beyond your ability to defend. Depending on how important your job is I would advise either ignoring her or consider working for someone less self-conscious about there heritage. But should you decide stay then you might want to be a little more inquisitive and show an honest interest in your employers culture.

This is a clear case of overreaction. I don't think it would offend me if someone said it was a Christian on the phone. Of course, I didn't hear the way you said it, but I doubt it was bad.
Maybe she has had problems with people heckling her for her religion in the past. Her argument is way off base, though, because Judaism came WAAAAAAAAAAY before Islam by several thousand years. She was making it sound like Judaism came from Islam or something, when that is clearly not true in the least.
I know the women will hate me for saying this, but it might have just been that time of the month... It seems like too much of an overreaction for normal circumstances.

I can see why she was offended. Muslims like to believe their religion is very diverse and goes beyond the limits of the Middle East, which it does. She probably thought that you assumed he was Muslim since he had a middle eastern last name. Islam is a belief anybody of any nationality can have and not just Arabs albeit that Arabian Nationality is part of the religion and Arab Christians say they are not arab. But its any easy mistake to make and it probably hasnt happened to her before. And you should indefinitely not be fried.

an engaging question certainly. properly for one subject the top of technological advances must be the top of capitalism. Not at all. That seems a little... weird. Just tell her you honestly didn't mean to offend anyone. If she's SMART, she'll understand, and if not... hit her in the head with a fire extinguisher... That should straighten her out... lol.

Why should you be sorry?
See below...
We apologize to anyone who may be offended by the history of the founder of Islam (Muhammad) below. And we are aware of the sensitivities involved. However, infinitely more damage has been done to Islam's "believers" by Islam's history of withholding the truth about its founder to them -- - and the circumstances surrounding its inception -- than any "damage" this true history below can cause.
As you will see below, Muhammad posed as an apostle of God. Yet his life is filled with lustfulness (12 marriages and sex with a child, slaves and concubines), rapes, warfare, conquests, and unmerciful butcheries. The infinitely good, just and all holy God simply cannot tolerate anything in the least unjust or sinful. What Muhammad produced in the Qur'an is simply a book of gibberish consisting of later evil verses abrogating (superseding) earlier peaceful verses. These verses in Arabic poetically "tickle" the ears of Arab listeners.

The said thing happened to me with a Jew. I am a private contractor with mostly Jewish people and I mentioned someone that, I had previously worked for and I said ...he is Jewish... the man was very annoyed and began rattling on....I apologized, thanked him for the information and shut myself off as he carried on. You cannot say anything to satisfy or please them at this stage, just apologize and leave it alone.

She sounds hyper sensitive to me. Perhaps you could explain to her that he mentioned he was taking the time to say his prayers, and that was more typical of the muslim faith?
