All these guys are right you can't get a double barrel for that price unless you've got a relative who is just short of giving it away.

I use an over & under basically for me its a more logical design. The reason being its easier to compensate for trajectory; up and down. With the side by side it would be difficult to center your sights between two barrels. As your target, prey, game is farther, you'll still be bothering with left to right, instead of trajectory. Its very minimal though, but still it exists. Its easier to follow one straight line and two.

I have tried s&s. I currently own a Browning Citori Lightning and a Browning Double Auto in light brown.

Good luck. These weapons are great sporting guns

I have to agree with the others, in that you're going to have a REALLY hard time finding a servicable sxs for that price. I would look very closely at one before I bought it, or have someone who knows guns look at it first. There are a lot of wall hangers that sell in that price, and wouldn't do you any good in the field. If you have time, you might be able to find a used Stoeger at one of the auction sites that's in the ballpark. I know this isn't what you asked, but for that price, or a little more, I would say the best you could do is a used Rem. 870, or a Mossberg 500 or 835. Walmart also sells the Maverick 88 (which is a Mossberg), right around $200 or less. Good luck to you.

it may be very difficult to find a double barrel for under about $300. and even at that i woud not expect much quality. Double barrels are the cream of the crop of shotguns, they are usually the most expensive shotgun that a company makes, the Ruger Red Label for example is around $1500, similar Browning shotguns are over double what a semi-auto would cost, and many times over what a pump would cost. If you are budgeted, i would recomend a pump. You can find a used Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 for around $200. Good luck

I have only shot a side by side, but the over/under seems more popular. I think SxS is less expensive, but $180 is really cheap. You might try ***** Sporting Goods for a new one in the $300 range. I would check with a gun shop for a cheap one.

What is better, o/u or s/s? Depends on what you want it for. The over n under balances better for field use. The side by side has more intimidation value (like for home defense).

For a $180 you are looking at the used gun market. Stoeger Industries does offer a series of coach guns in blue or stainless steel that look impressive, are side-by-side, and are affordable at around three, three-hundred-fifty bucks. Maybe closer to four in s/s.

Good luck.

I think you will be lucky to find a double bbl shotgun, of a decent quality, for under $180. At this price you may have to take what you can get.

As for side by side or over under, I suggest you go to some guns shops and see what feels best to you.

I do not recommend purchasing any firearm for $180. Save up a bit more until you could spend at least $250 and even then you are stretching it. You must consider the quality of the weapon before you shoot it. At $180 the shotgun would probably be dangerous to yourself and others around you.

I don't think this is a "stupid answer" but what do you expect to get for your $180 bucks is my question..something from a garage sale that don't work???
A cheap gun is just that, they don't work and when they break you'll be buying another cheapo. Save your money and buy a decent O/U in a 20 or 12ga.

You may be using the wrong shell length, as 12 ga shells come in several lengths. (2-9/16, now obsolete, and 2-3/4, 3, and a longer one I think is 3-1/2.)

I prefer over and under because of personal preference.

It feels more like a pump-action than a side-by-side and I believe it looks better.

But it's all up to you, side-by-sides are good but it all depends on your preference.
