The side effect of the class of drugs to which Seroquel belongs is often an intense craving for carbohydrates, which causes the weight gain. But like side effects on any medication, not everyone who takes the medication experiences the any or all of the side effects.
My son, who is now 10, has been taking a related medication for quite a while with no abnormal weight gain, no intense cravings for carbs. On the other hand, I took one of the older related medications and balooned up by 35#, but when I stopped the medication, I lost the weight pretty quickly.
A lot depends on your unique metabolism. Were you overweight when you started, or is the weight loss unnecessary? At any rate, you should discuss it with your doctor the next time you have an appointment for medication monitoring.
