If you plan to use hostels and eat cheap food, around $1000 a month, which is around $30 a day, plus emergency cash (like a credit card).

To gauge accomodation prices use hostelz.com. The average monthly salary in Argentina before tax is $400, and it's a relatively rich country, so you can get by on a lot less than $1,000, especially in other countries like Bolivia, but it depends on whether you want to do trips etc.
My friend had private 1-on-1 lessons with the Latin American kick-boxing champion for $2 per hour. And I've eaten 16 ounce steaks for $3. But very touristy areas can cost a lot more, some just charge in dollars, and that is costly.

Let see you need to consider what are you going to do: I can give you more less the prices for Peru:
tours are more less: $10 a day - $20
food: You can find $1 menus to $5(fastfood), groceries are cheap e.g. bottle water - $0.50
sleep: hostels from $10 ( in barranco) - www.operu.com
taxis: $2 from the street -private taxis $10 from the airport to barranco o miraflores, miraflores to san isdro $3
If you visit Lima you can spent in a day $20 but if you travell outside Lima you can spent in a day $10. So I will recommend you consider, to see how many cities you are going to visit, how are you gonna get there..cause if you travell by air the fares between countries are more less $300 and by road is waay cheaper. so your budge for the 2 months can go from $2500-$4000.

You think you need to be more specific and tell us where you plan on going, what you plan on doing, and where you plan on staying (5 star hotel or hostel).
Im gonna say at least $1000 a month though, as a rough estimate.
