I like the Olay Body Quench for body, but the Neutrogena Fisherman's (Norweigan) blend is WONDERFUL for hands. It is probably too thick for the whole body, but it works well on elbows, heels, etc. I also like Sally Hansen's cracked heel formula if your feet get dried out.

Lubriderm! It is not oily and it doesn't clog pores! Great for all over areas and after shaving. DOES NOT irritate skin. My doctor prescribed it to me because, I too, have the same problem as you. I use Lubriderm as soon as I get out of the shower, before I go to sleep, and when I wake up in the morning. It is a little pricey ( about 10 dollars for a 16 oz. bottle ) but let me tell you, IT IS THE BEST! I used aveeno for awhile too but then noticed it left my skin a little oily and irritated my legs after I shaved.
Also, another helpful tip is to not take VERY hot showers. This will cause your skin to be itchy and dry. Take no more than 5 minutes in a HOT shower. Your showers should be kept luke warm. Oatmeal baths are GREAT to help soothe and heal your dry skin!

Don't use lotion, use something thicker like body butter. Shea or Hemp from the Body Shop it the BEST. Be sure to exfoliate and moisturize as soon after a bath or shower as you can. If you can, also try to take your showers or baths a few degrees cooler, hot water can dry out your skin. Drink alot of water.

You don't need a lotion - that only temporarily makes your skin look and feel better. Below are some sites where you can purchase Whipped Shea Body Butter. This will actually heal, soothe, and treat your skin.

I agree with the Aveeno users. Aveeno will be great as a first choice since your skin is in bad shape already. Anything else with perfumes will just irritate it more and you will have more problems than just an itch. After using it and your skin heals, you can use whatever to maintain its healthy balance. They have great bodywashes, too that dont dry your skin like soap.

Seriously not too sure about the other products but I know body butters from The Body Shop are all quite good, especially like 'OLIVE'.The only thing is I find them a little heavy.
I also use body lotions from Cetaphil which is good and also those from St.Ives.Been using this, really wonderful!Check this out:-

Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and use a face pack of ripe bananas and honey. You can find more cheap, effective and natural home remedies for dry skin at the link below.

Ahava's Dermud body cream - best stuff on earth, it contains mud from the dead sea. I have very very dry skin and occasional eczema - it takes care of both.
