My computer was acting up and going very slow. I was having difficulty removing some of the many downloaded programs on my computer through the control panel, so I just restored my computer to a month ago. After the restore, my screen was completely blank, save for my wall paper, and the only thing that seems to work is the task manager. I've tried starting my computer with the last good configuration and other modes, but nothing seems to work. I can access the internet by using task manager, but that's the only thing that seems to work. Any suggestions?

why don't you try this. on the task manager click on file then on new task and type explorer.exe hopefully that will bring your icons and the rest of the items back. from there you can try to fix whatever you did to your pc. sometimes shortcuts are not really shortcuts as you can see.

I recently ran into a similar problem because Gateway (incorrectly) told me that a system restore was the only way to correct an error message I was receiving. Once you start a system restore, it's really hard to go back and change anything. You need to do it completely and then re-install all of your previous programs. Sometimes, your system will come with a CD with all of the original drivers and programs. If you still have the disks, then it may not be too much of a hassle, but if not, it's a pain in the !@@$!?!. I would contact your computer's customer service line and ask them to send you the recovery disk and the website address of any drivers that are needed. I feel your pain and I wish you luck!
