I wonder the same thing...my location is making my cake & is charging me by the slice. For $5, I want a much bigger slice, but that's just me.

Because it's more important that a cupcake. It's an expensive wedding cake, so to even get a sliver it's worth more than a large cupcake without meaning even if the cake it fruitcake.... EEEWWWWWW
But people should be smart and offer two cakes so the slices can be larger, but some will miss out....on wedding cake...

It's not still a sliver. It's only a sliver if the cake cutter's think that you don't have enough cake to feed the guests. Then they cut them smaller.
Also, general thinking is that it's better to give guests small slices and let them get another if they want, than to give a large slice to someone who won't eat it all.

maybe its because if you have 100 people going to your wedding you make a hundred cupcakes. With a cake some person has to guess to see if they can cut that many pieces that are roughly the same size.

The size of the "slice" depends upon who is cutting it - maybe you just are encountering cheap caterers.
