It's not an element that is traditionally associated with Christmas. In the South, it's served and eaten yearround, so why is it different elsewhere?

Maybe for the same reason the south eat sweet potato pie almost all the time, but everywhere else it's only at thanksgiving. (It tastes just like pumpkin pie)

It's different here--it's available year-round in Kansas. It's nice, since I'm pregnant and ALWAYS craving red velvet cake!

because some stores make it as a holiday food, just like a store such as verizon may have a "holiday phone" and will only be around during the holiday.
