Why is Corned beef is called corned beef if there is no corn???

It is just a pre marinated beef brisket. Corned is just a cooking term. Chef John

The name "corned beef" is due to a coarse salt used in the pickling process. Corn was historically a synonym for grain, as in a small particle of something (in German "Korn" still has that meaning), and referred to the corns of salt.
