I recently noticed that on the top of my teeth on the top of my mouth and on the bottom of the teeth on the bottom of my mouth there are lines of brown and yellow. What is this? How do I get rid of it? Could it pose a potential problem?

I brush and floss my teeth every night.
I mouth wash every morning and night.

What could be causing this?

When you brush the sides of your teeth be sure you feel the toothbrush bristles tickling on the gum surrounding each tooth. Don't brush back and forth with great vigor slow things down and brush with very small circular massaging strokes almost wiggling the toothbrush in place. Always use a soft or extra soft brush so that the bristles are flexible enough to conform to the shape of your teeth and east their way between the teeth and under the gums a bit.

If you brush the biting surface of your teeth first then roll the brush over to the side of the teeth and brush the sides that way you very often miss the millimetre of tooth immediately above the gum and that is where all the plaque and stain will gather. This is why I say if you don't feel the brush on your gums then you haven't cleaned the entire surface of the tooth.

Could be coffee stains or tea stains or soda pop stains or grape juice stains or tobacco stains.

Brush your teeth once or twice a week with baking soda, that will whiten them.

Don't go spend a ton of money on tooth whiteners, when the home remedy is in your kitchen cupboard; BAKING SODA, and swish your mouth with peroxide. You can also make a paste with baking soda and peroxide and brush with that!

Good Luck.

Do you smoke or drink coffee? These will stain your teeth brown and yellow. Try an at home teeth whitening kit (I recomment Crest Whitening Strips - about $40).

from the way you're describing it, i'm imagining you have lines of stains against up against your gums? if thats the case, your toothbrush isnt "tall" enough to get to those parts of your teeth. brush your teeth at a 45 degree angle so the bristles get up there.

Yes it is a problem.

You didn't say whether you smoke, chew, drink coffee, use snuff, drink tea, or a lot of other things.

If you are really worried, why don't you ask a dentist rather than ask here?
