44 cent raise on the hour or year? 44 cents an hour may be just enough to kick you into the next tax bracket.
Check out your tax status here:

You can reduce your taxes through credits like charitable contributions or contributions to your retirement through a 401k or a Roth IRA.
Good luck

When you get a refund it is because you over paid your taxes by the amount of the refund. If you are getting a smaller refund it means that you did not let the Goverment hold more of your money this past year.
Your goal should be that you do not owe the IRS anything and that the IRS doesn't owe you.

You advise that your refund is decrease, no longer your go back? What became the quantity withheld each and each year? we favor those 2 numbers (2006 and 2007) -federal withholdings for a evaluation, the organizations likely withheld diverse quantities out of your paycheck.

You need to compare your income, this year and last; with the amount of taxes you had withheld this year and last. I would bet that you don't have more withholding to go with the higher income. I would be willing to bet you are not paying much more in taxes, the refund is the result of the balance between the tax and the amount withheld from your check.
