Potatoes need high heat - the first answerer's 250F would take about a week to cook! If I'm going to cook potatoes in the oven, I set it for about 400 - 450F; oil the skin slightly with butter or margerine so that it doesn't crack, and put it in for about an hour. You can wrap it in foil if you want to, but it's definitely not necessary.
One of the strangest things I ever saw (but it worked!) was the use of long aluminum "nails" inserted into the potato to transmit heat to the center; it cut the cooking time by about a third.
Of course, you can always put them in the microwave - about 10-12 minutes at high for most ovens will do it nicely. Don't use foil on the potatoes in the microwave, of course; it will just shield them from the waves (which are nothing more than radio waves at a high frequency), and may also cause sparking in the oven.
I've also cooked potatoes in the coals of a fire when camping; just use a shovel or other fireproof item to make a depression in the coals, put the potato(es) in, and cover with more coals; it works like a charm, and there's no clean-up :-)

Wrap the potatoes in foil and bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour. If you have a microwave, put them into a sandwhich bag and bake about 10-20 minutes depending on the size of the potato.

Don't poke holes in it--that will release all the juices. Pre-heat the oven at 400 degrees, wash potatoes, set them in a good pan (I always use a large iron skillet), and bake for an hour, depending on how big and how many.

Wash them real good, rub them with salt & poke holes in them or they will burst and make a mess in your oven and bake them on 400 for about an hour or so for a normal size potatoe. You can test them by sticking a fork in them after an hour. Since they are cleaned and seasoned don't forget to eat the skin. It's the best part.

Preheat oven to 400. Wash potatoes and dry. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle liberally with sea salt. Do not poke holes in potatoes. Bake for 1 hour or until tender when pierced. Use middle rack.

Set your oven on 450-500 degrees and get it pre-heated. Wash potatoes, dust with kosher salt and bake till knife inserted comes out easy. Put a puncture in the potato to prevent if from blowing up.

Personally prefer Microwave. 2mins for a large potato. Fast and good.
best put in a Micro safe dish with a centimeter deep water in it.
Just bake in 250 F . Wrapped is always better. Wash and put. Gives some moisture. Time depends om size.
