She could try Mangosteen juice, my mom's been taking it and she's living with a lot less pain now herself. It's so powerful that in south east asia the dentists use it on their patients as a treatment for pain instead of conventional pain medications, and a lot of people who suffer from chronic migranes have had great results with the juice and were able to stop having to take the medications they were on, a relief since they can be a bit hard on the liver. You can find out about this mangosteen juice at these two places: (check out their testimonials and research)

Has she ever had headaches before?
If not.. she needs to go to the ER. There are some health issues that cause sudden onset of headaches (e.g I had meningitis.)

If she has had headaches before this.... find a headache and pain relief clinic. Some family doctors are very good with headaches. (There is still a bit of a stigma attached to headaches ...."It's all in your head!") So get a specialist - a neurologist or headache/pain specialist.
There is alot that can be done to help:
medicine (pain relief and preventive meds),
therapy (craniosacral therapy, acupuncture, nerve blocks, chiropractic, meditation etc.)
holistic (tinctures from a nautropath or high doses of vitamin B2 riboflavin and magnesium)
food (she can learn to recognize foods that trigger her headaches. Then stop eating those foods. (eg. bananas, red wine, coffee, white sugar, wheat, cheese are all triggers for me.)

Rules of thumb.... reduce stress, avoid trigger foods, eat at regular intervals, have a regular sleep pattern, learn to meditate to reduce stress and pain intensity.

Don't panic.... keep in mind, anything that is deadly would not come and go. She could be having migraines. Is she having additional symptoms with it like nausea, vision problems, numbness or tingling? Those can signal the start of a migraine. That is what I get with mine. Although my migraines have evolved into a chronic migraine that has now lasted for six months. Why didnt the Dr prescribe anything if they thought it was a migraine? I use Relpax and if I take it immediately at the first sign I can prevent the kind of pain that makes me want to put my head through a pane of glass.

I tried Topamax for migraine prevention and it was horrible. I got to the point that I couldnt spell common words.

I do not have an answer but I truly understand how she feels. I have suffered with headaches and also now migraines and the medical profession hasn't got a clue how to help me. For me it is a hit and miss as to what may help. I am so sorry to hear when others suffer from similar headaches.
Sometimes peppermint oil on my forehead helps dull the pain. Try it it is easy to come by and even can smell nice.

Stress triggers of chemical imbalance in the brain and for most getting in control of daily stress helps her hormone levels go crazy for one have her take a pregnancy, pregnancy also triggers bad headaches. It is normal to have a headache that can last for three weeks but if it comes and goes away in intervals do get a cat scan it can also mean something greater. do help her manage stress make her a nice bath with lavender oil and hot water massage her scalp have take "private times" and do deep breathing. Headaches are also a sign of premenstrual symptoms, menopause etc..... or even food triggers headaches. Always check with a neurologist for this never consult anyone when it comes to health.

It could be stress related if she's having a stressful time. They could be tension headaches. It could also be diet or lack of or too much sleep. She could have a head flu or a sinus infection or sinus-related headache. It could also be a migraine, especially if it is unable to be treated with normal over-the-counter drugs. If she is sensitive to lights, smells, and has nausea then it is probably a migraine. They can last for days. It could be any of those... but go back to the doctor- even the ER if the pain becomes impossible and the doc can give pain meds.

Muscles get knots called trigger points. These make the muscles tight causing them to press on nerves and other thing.
Pain can be referred from places other than the head.
#1 The first thing is to take a couple swigs of molasses or eat a couple of bananas. They contain magnisium and potassium both of which muscles need.
#2 WATER she should be drinking 1/2 gallon minimum. The head of neurology at UCDavis likens a body running low on water to a car running low on oil (the engine can seize).
Give her a good (deep tissue) massage (to loosen the trigger points) on her back, shoulders and neck. Make sure to press up at the base of the skull where it meets the spine.
Have her rub or lightly scratch everywhere on her head. She will hit spots that are tender these are trigger points. The idea is to rub across them 6-12 times per session up to six times per day until they go away.
For more information on trigger points read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

my sister has suffered with headaches for many years and nobody can tell her why they happen or how they can stop them. the only thing western medicine has done for her is put her on so many drugs that she needs to carry them with her in a extra large ziplock back.

i have offered her alternatives that she refuses to do because she has become so dependent on these drugs that she is afraid of anything else.

so before your girlfriend gets addicted i would suggest that she invest in a wellness home. to learn more about this she should go to www.mysuccessmagnet.com and check it out.

if you/she want to know more about the technologies and how they work and can help you can call 1-877-LIFE-711 and i will be happy to give you the information and put you in touch with doctors and nurses that can help.

by they way, i do believe in western medicine .. i just have learned it isnt always right and it isnt the only option

good luck

They should have done the brain scan. Suddenly appearing headaches (especially bad ones ) can be a sign of a brain aneurism. If they do the brain scan (insist that she get it done ASAP) and it is normal, you can try a chiropractor. There is a lot of information on migraines available on the internet, but because these started suddenly, I think it is very important that she gets an MRI.
