for guacamole? The recipe says to mash the avacado with a fork until almost smooth or until desired consistency, but do I peel it and cut it first? Or do I just peel it? Oh, and the recipe is:

INGREDIENTS:
1 large ripe avocado
1 tsp lemon juice
1/4 cup salsa
1/4 tsp garlic powder
dash salt to taste
dash cayenne, chili powder or taco sauce (optional)
PREPARATION:
Mash avocado with a fork until almost smooth, or until desired consistency.
Add the rest of the ingredients and mix until well combined. That's it! Dip your chips and enjoy!

If I were to make enough for about twelve people, how much would I need of all of those ingredients? What I'm asking is, how many servings does this recipe make? It doesn't say, but maybe someone could figure it out...

Sorry, I'm a beginner in cooking...

Cut it in half, take out the seed and squeeze the "meat" into your bowl. It should come out easily if the avocado is ripe.

To peel an avocado, first slice it into quarters or halves lengthwise, cutting to the large center seed. You can twist the cut avocado to separate halves. Remove the seed with a paring knife if it doesn't lift right out. If the avocado is ripe, you can use your fingers to peel back the skin. Otherwise, use a paring knife. Always rub or sprinkle cut avocado with lemon or lime juice to prevent discoloration. This inevitable browning doesn't affect the flavor or nutrition, but it does make the avocado flesh less appetizing to look at. Cover mashed or pureed avocado with a heavy-duty plastic wrap applied directly to the surface. The convenient idea- often repeated-that leaving the seed in with the mashed avocado will prevent browning is, unfortunately, not true.

Avocado are usually eaten raw. High heat causes them to turn bitter, so avocado pieces are added to hot dishes after cooking. Sliced or chopped avocado adds a rich note to salads or sandwiches.
Avocado is the basis for many classic American dishes such as avocado stuffed with crub or shrimp salad and avocado and grapefruit salad with a honey-mustard dressing.

Best Recipe: Mashed avocado is traditionally used to make the Mexican dip guacamole, now appreciated world wide. To make guacamole for a party, you will need 2 ripe Hass avocados, halved and pitted; 1 medium tomato, peeled, cored, seeded, and coarsely chopped; 1/2 cup finely chopped red onion; 1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro(coriander); 3 tbsp lime juice; 3/4 tsp ground cumin; 3/4 tsp salt; and 3/4 tsp jalapeno pepper sauce. Scoop avocado flesh into a medium bowl and mash with a fork until not quite smooth. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Cover with plastic wrap and keep in the refrigerator until ready to use. Guacamole is traditionally served with tortilla chips, but many health-conscious people enjoy it just as well with raw vegetables.

Enjoy! Good luck!..._;-)

I prefer my guac chunky, so I just use a butter knife to sorta chop and mix it all at once.

You can score it in the skin, then scoop out w/ a spoon, if you like. Voila! Pre-diced avocado!

I'd double this recipe below for 12 people:

Guacamole,

4 ripe Haas avocados
3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (1 lemon)
8 dashes Tabasco sauce
1/2 cup minced red onion (1 small onion)
1 large garlic clove, minced
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 medium tomato, seeded, cored, and small-diced

Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh out of their shells into a large bowl. Immediately add the lemon juice, Tabasco, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper and toss well. Using a sharp knife, slice through the avocados in the bowl until they are finely diced. Add the tomatoes. Mix well and taste for salt and pepper.

It depends on how old your child is. If they are just starting then you might want to dilute it with water (actually breast milk or formula would be better since they'll be getting a familiar taste and extra nutrition,) until it is really thin. That way they wont choke on it because it will be so thick. Never add any salt or sugar though as babies don't need it and they prefer bland tasting food because their taste buds are younger and can taste better! I reccommend the book "Super Baby Food" by Ruth Yaron. There is tons of info on how to begin feeding your baby and if you so choose how to make your own baby food!

My recipe is almost exactly what SugarPie's is. The only difference is I add one can of white beans (rinsed) and a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil. It's the best tasting guacamole ever, it will blow your mind.
